He was drawn to entrepreneurship because of the creativity and problem-solving involved. He believes that all refugees are entrepreneurs because they possess these skills already. Creativity and problem-solving were required to get to the United States. He wants them to see that through education, they can be successful. He hopes to encourage young POC to attend college, take advantage of opportunities ahead of them, be successful and maintain connections to their community. Abukar’s favorite quote is from Albert Einstein: “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” During his junior year, Abukar received the Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service — also known as the Voyager Scholarship — funded by the Obama Foundation and Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO.
