T he NH Automobile Dealers Association is partnering with the Community College System of New Hampshire on a workforce develop- ment model to assist the automotive industry in hiring and training entry-level technicians. To build on the successful co-op programs for factory-specific and general automotive training, the Apprenticeship NH team approached NHADA with another option in finding and building talent for these entry level technicians. The Apprenticeship NH team, funded by a grant from the US Department of Labor, works with employers to deter- mine their specific workforce needs and solutions that best serve them, including related technical instruction and assistance with recruitment. NHADA has agreed to be the industry association sponsor for their membership. In the sponsorship role, NHADA will set the standards for the apprenticeship, which details the tasks of on-the-job training and the related technical instruction, allowing busi- nesses to sign onto the apprenticeship program easily and with limited paperwork. The related instruction is provided by CCSNH at their various campuses. The grant managed by CCSNH provides technical assis- tance and recruitment assistance for employers and some funding for the apprentices’ related technical instruction. There are opportunities for braided funding through state and federal agencies as well as the Job Training Fund managed by NHADA for its members.
