ADVOCACY & INDUSTRY VOICE 15

Today, more than ever, it is important to stay informed and involved in the political landscape. From voting for leadership that understands our industry to supporting legislation that protects the Merit Shop Philosophy, each of us must do our part. With over 21,000 members and 69 chapters, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) understands that together, our one powerful voice has the ability to advocate and affect change. That is why every member should download the ABC Action app. The ABC Action app is a complete suite for everything members need to know about the association’s advocacy efforts and how they can get involved. “It’s like a handheld version of our ABC Action Center, but it’s tailored to our specific issues and the individual,” says Patrick McCarty, grassroots manager at ABC. “It’s how we help build engagement, our mobile ABC Action app.” “The app is an advanced advocacy tool that enables ABC members to become a vital part of the association’s grassroots advocacy efforts and allows you to make your voice heard,” says Ben Brubeck, vice president of regulatory, labor and state affairs at ABC. “Through the ABC Action app, users can take action in grassroots campaigns and push for pro-Merit Shop legislation in Congress and state capitols, check out state-specific policy information in the Merit Shop Scorecard, and access a custom X (formerlyTwitter) feed tracking issues important to our membership and the construction industry.” When users download the ABC Action app, they create a profile where they enter their personal information, including their home or business address. This information is automatically matched in VoterVoice to return a personalized experience for the users that connects them with their elected officials and also shows them any active federal or state campaigns they can participate in. The app also pulls all elected officials’ headshots and contact information (including the option to call them or visit their website and social media accounts), maps of office locations and information on how they voted on ABC’s key issues based on VoterVoice’s scorecards. “We use the VoterVoice API and its grassroots functionality for our members to get in touch with their federal and state elected officials with just a few clicks,” says McCarty. “The ABC Action app, in addition to VoterVoice email alerts, is how we primarily drive participation for advocacy efforts, from a national perspective down to the chapters.” 505.433.3664 | www.brycon.com Lighting Electric Signs Technology Controls Solar EV Charging DO YOU HAVE FACILITY CHALLENGES? Building America: The Merit Shop Scorecard Building America:The Merit Shop Scorecard rates state laws, programs, policies and statistics in seven categories: project labor agreements, prevailing wage laws, right-to-work laws, public-private partnerships, workforce development, CTE and job growth rate. Learn more at meritshopscorecard.org. Overall ranking (1-51) is determined through a combined score of the seven graded criteria. Ties in combined score being broken by performance on ABC core issues, with secondary consideration given to additional graded criteria. WHAT IS THE MERIT SHOP PHILOSOPHY? The Merit Shop Philosophy is the belief that people and companies succeed based on free enterprise principles within the free market system, which is characterized by open and fair competition and diverse participants. Those who adhere to the philosophy believe employees and employers have the right to determine wages and working conditions through either individual or collective bargaining, as they choose, within the boundaries of the law. Associated Builders and Contractors is a national construction industry trade association established in 1950 that represents more than 23,000 members. Founded on the Merit Shop Philosophy, ABC and its 67 chapters help members develop people, win work, and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which they work.
