By Jennifer Morand, President, CATA Dear CATA Members, I’m happy to share that final attendance for this year’s Chicago Auto Show reached 211,850. Even more encouraging, 44% of attendees are in the market to purchase a new vehicle within the next 12 months, and half of those plan to buy within just six months. We also saw a record level of in-vehicle engagement, with more than 102,000 ride-alongs and test drives. Overall, it was a strong and successful event. Our new enthusiast-focused attraction, Chi-Town Alley, was especially well-received and proved to be a major draw. We also saw great energy around the return of the Family Zone and the Overlanding area, both of which maintained steady crowds and high engagement throughout the show. It’s exciting to see how much these feature areas resonated with attendees. Our cornerstone charity gala, First Look for Charity, raised more than $2 million for 18 outstanding local organizations, an incredible reflection of our dealers’ ongoing commitment to the community. More than 6,000 guests attended the black-tie event, getting an exclusive first look at the 118th edition of the Chicago Auto Show. Thanks to all of our members who attended or donated in support. As we turn the calendar to spring and summer ahead, we’re pleased to announce the date and location of the CATA’s Annual Meeting and Golf Outing: Tuesday, July 21, at Cog Hill Golf Course & Country Club in Lemont. Note, there will be a new format this year with a noon shotgun start and a dinner and program to follow. During this event, we will also introduce a few new board members. We hope you will join us to learn the latest CATA updates and enjoy a day of fun, golf and networking! Also coming this spring, we will continue advocating on behalf of new-car dealers and working with our state association to strengthen franchise agreement language, with a particular focus on preventing legacy manufacturers from selling directly to consumers in Illinois. Looking even further ahead, we are excited to announce the return of our fall test drive event, which will now include all powertrains. As the industry shifts gears, we are adapting and promoting all powertrains for consumers to experience and test drive. The event will be held Oct. 1-4, 2026, once again at the ComEd building adjacent to the CATA’s headquarters in Oakbrook Terrace. The CATA staff and Board of Directors are looking forward to a busy and successful season ahead, and hope to see many of our members at our Annual Meeting and Golf Outing in July! Sincerely, Jennifer Morand President, Chicago Automobile Trade Association General Manager, Chicago Auto Show Letter From the President A Strong Show and a Busy Season Ahead CATA UP TO SPEED 5

Over the past 15 years, CATA’s trustee representation on the Local 701 Pension, Welfare, and 401(k) Trust Funds has delivered measurable financial progress, while continuing to ensure that these Funds are structured and funded appropriately, given the unique needs of every stakeholder in the industry, including CATA dealer members. PENSION FUND: FROM CRITICAL TO NEARLY FULLY FUNDED When Chris Konecki, CATA executive vice president and full-time CATA employee, first became a trustee on the Local 701 Pension Fund 15 years ago, the Fund was in the “red zone,” meaning it was less than 80% funded and certified by its actuary as being in “critical” status. Today, the Fund is 98% funded, certified by its actuary as in the “green” zone (the healthiest designation the Fund can receive under the law), and projected to be fully funded within two years (and to remain fully funded for the foreseeable future). Impact for Employers: Once fully funded, withdrawal liability will be eliminated for employers who sell their businesses, providing a significant financial and strategic advantage for the entire industry. Second Pension Plan Prevented: In the most recent Local 701 contract negotiations, there was a serious risk that the union would seek to add a second pension plan, the IAM National Pension Fund. The IAM National Pension Fund is not as well funded as the Local 701 Pension Fund, and the addition of this second fund to the Local 701 agreements could have substantially increased each dealer’s potential withdrawal liability. Through trustee-led negotiations, this second pension was kept out of the agreement, protecting dealers from additional long-term financial exposure and strengthening the Local 701 Pension Fund so that it can achieve full funding and continue to provide meaningful pension benefits to employees. In addition, Konecki also serves as a trustee for the Local 731 Teamsters Pension and Welfare Funds, where the pension fund currently has zero withdrawal liability and remains very well funded. WELFARE FUND: STABILIZED AND STRENGTHENED The Local 701 Welfare Fund has also improved significantly since Konecki became a trustee. The Welfare Fund, like the Pension Fund, is now very well funded and is projected to remain well funded for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, following recent negotiations among the trustees, the Welfare Fund’s premium rates will include an assumed future investment return, which should result in lower annual healthcare premium cost increases beginning with the 2029 contract cycle. The progress achieved over the past 15 years reflects steady, experienced leadership by Konecki and the CATA, focused on: » Financial stability » Risk reduction » Long-term sustainability for every stakeholder, including CATA members and other employers Strong benefit funds don’t happen by accident; they require experience, diligence and a commitment to protecting every stakeholder in the industry, including the dealers CATA represents. Furthermore, union negotiations don’t just affect unionized dealerships; they influence the broader market by helping set compensation standards and cost structures that impact both union and non-union dealerships. Konecki balances this critical trustee role alongside his CATA leadership and Chicago Auto Show responsibilities with dedication and discipline. His passion for the dealer industry is evident in every role in which he serves, and his understanding of the industry (and of the Local 701 and Local 731 Benefit Funds) is second to none. Fifteen years ago, the Local 701 Funds were in trouble. Today, they are strong, stable and positioned for full funding well into the future. That transformation reflects disciplined leadership and deep institutional knowledge. As the financial landscape continues to evolve, Konecki’s experience and expertise, developed over many years in this role, will remain essential to protecting the dealer industry, CATA members and their businesses. Four immersive indoor test tracks and daily outdoor test drives provided attendees with hands-on opportunities to experience the latest vehicles firsthand. New for 2026, the Chicago Drives gas-powered track debuted on the show floor, offering attendees an additional passenger-seat experience featuring gas- and hybrid-powered models. Combined with outdoor test drives from across 8 brands, the expanded offerings reinforced the show’s commitment to interactive, hands-on engagement. “Each year we strive to make the Chicago Auto Show more immersive and relevant for today’s consumers,” said Chicago Auto Show General Manager Jennifer Morand. “From hands-on test tracks to dynamic new exhibits, the show gave attendees countless opportunities to explore, compare and experience the latest advancements in the automotive space.” New and returning specialty exhibits further elevated the show experience. exotics. The exhibit also showcased six locally selected vehicles from the inaugural Chi-Town Alley Showcase contest, where the fan-voted winner, Tim Mejias, was ultimately named and recognized for his 1997 BMW M3. As part of the honor, Mejias received an invitation to return and display his winning vehicle at the 2027 Chicago Auto Show. Attendees could also enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaker and car enthusiast Sung Kang’s upcoming film “DRIFTER,” including two versions of the film’s hero car, “Lola.” Returning exhibits also drew strong engagement throughout the show’s run. Overlanding Chicago expanded its footprint with additional demonstrations, specialty vehicles and upfitting vendors focused on adventure-ready builds and the overlanding lifestyle. For the first time, participating Overlanding exhibitors camped overnight on the show floor, CATA UP TO SPEED 9

transforming the exhibit into a city-style campsite complete with activities like hide-and-seek, story time and “campfire” snacks. The Family Zone once again provided a dedicated, family-friendly space with interactive activities, including a kids’ Power Wheels track, Sim Drive racing simulators, car seat demonstrations with Britax and hands-on play areas designed to engage younger attendees while immersing them in the auto show environment. This year’s themed days and special events attracted enthusiastic crowds and diverse audiences. The Miles Per Hour Run returned as a unique indoor running experience through the show floor, drawing more than 800 participants from 12 different states. Automotive Career Day welcomed nearly 2,000 students from across Chicagoland, offering a firsthand look at the wide range of opportunities in the automotive industry. Chicago Friday Night Flights also returned as a one-of-a-kind craft beer sampling event paired with live music and full access to the show. “Chicagoland’s new-car dealers continue to set the standard, uniting to deliver one of the most prestigious auto shows in the world and standing firmly behind the local organizations that power our community,” said 2026 Chicago Auto Show Chairman Jason Roberts. “The Chicago Auto Show continues to stand out as a place where innovation, culture and consumer engagement come together. This year’s new exhibits, expanded ride-alongs and diverse displays demonstrated how the show continues to evolve alongside the industry.” In partnership with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois, the Dennis Buckley Memorial Blood Drive, a meaningful tradition spanning more than two decades, returned during the 2026 Chicago Auto Show. The drive collected 1,441 units of blood, the second-highest total in show history, helping provide lifesaving support to as many as 4,323 patients and their families while addressing critical winter shortages. Fan engagement extended well beyond the show floor. Analytics indicate that the Chicago Auto Show generated strong reach across digital and social media CATA UP TO SPEED 10

platforms, with millions of impressions, extensive video content and positive audience sentiment highlighting excitement around new exhibits, interactive experiences and the return of key manufacturers. The show also saw strong, growing sponsorship support for 2026, led by premier partners Cars.com and ComEd. Official sponsors included Sim Drive and Drive Chicago, with additional support from star sponsors U.S. Army and Mattress Firm, as well as supporting sponsors Renewal by Andersen and Britax. These partners played a key role in enhancing onsite activations, interactive exhibits and branded experiences, contributing to a more engaging and dynamic attendee experience throughout the show. The Chicago Auto Show is already gearing up with plans to return to McCormick Place next February. Dates for the 2027 Chicago Auto Show are Feb. 12 (First Look for Charity) and Feb. 13-21 (public show). For more information on the Chicago Auto Show, visit www.ChicagoAutoShow.com. Chi-Town Alley Debuts at the 2026 Chicago Auto Show The 2026 Chicago Auto Show introduced an exciting new attraction that quickly became a highlight for attendees. Making its debut on the show floor, Chi-Town Alley brought Chicago’s vibrant automotive culture to life through an immersive display celebrating the creativity and passion of local car enthusiasts. Designed to showcase the city’s diverse car communities, the exhibit featured a mix of performance vehicles, custom builds, street-inspired rides and exotics. At the center of the display was the inaugural Chi-Town Alley Showcase, a contest that invited Chicagoland enthusiasts to submit a 60-second video for a chance to have their vehicle featured at the show. The competition attracted more than 50 entries, from which six finalists were selected to display their vehicles throughout the show. Attendees voted on-site to determine the winner, ultimately selecting Tim Mejias for his 1997 BMW M3. As part of the honor, Mejias received an invitation to return and display his winning vehicle at the 2027 Chicago Auto Show. Adding to the excitement, filmmaker, car enthusiast and “Fast & Furious” star Sung Kang brought an exclusive sneak peek of his upcoming film “DRIFTER” to the exhibit. Attendees had the opportunity to see two versions of the film’s hero car, “Lola,” a Toyota Corolla AE86, up close. The display offered fans a closer look at the craftsmanship behind the vehicles while highlighting drifting culture and providing a glimpse of the film before its official release. With an enthusiastic response from attendees and participants alike, Chi-Town Alley quickly established itself as a standout addition to the Chicago Auto Show. The exhibit is expected to return in 2027, continuing to spotlight the passion, creativity and diversity of Chicago’s automotive community. CATA UP TO SPEED 21

Fixed Ops: The Quiet Growth Engine of the Dealership By Dynatron Software The most profitable opportunities in automotive retail aren’t always the loudest. In fact, the real growth engine for many dealerships isn’t on the sales floor. It’s in the service drive. Fixed operations is often the most controllable revenue stream in the dealership. While market conditions, inventory cycles and consumer demand can create volatility in vehicle sales, fixed ops performance is driven largely by execution, process discipline and performance management. Yet many dealerships struggle to unlock that advantage because they are operating inside what we call the “data fog.” They have access to more reporting than ever, but less clarity on what actually drives profitability. That’s where a true performance optimization strategy becomes critical. At Dynatron Software, we believe the future of fixed ops is not about collecting more data. It’s about turning data into action and creating a measurable performance advantage inside the dealership’s existing business. THE ECONOMICS MAKE FIXED OPS IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE Fixed ops remains one of the strongest profit contributors in the dealership because of its inherent margin structure. Parts and labor operations typically deliver 45-55% margins, creating predictable revenue streams that help stabilize overall dealership performance during economic shifts. But margin alone isn’t enough. High-performing service departments focus on improving execution across the entire value chain — from pricing strategy to customer communication. SERVICE EXPERIENCE DRIVES LOYALTY AND RETENTION Service experience is now one of the most important competitive differentiators in automotive retail. A strong service experience: » Improves customer retention » Increases lifetime customer value » Directly influences future vehicle purchases In many dealerships, service is the primary retention engine, quietly driving CATA UP TO SPEED 22

sales success long after the initial transaction is complete. THE INDUSTRY IS CREATING MORE SERVICE OPPORTUNITY Several market trends are expanding the opportunity for high-performing fixed ops departments: » The average vehicle fleet is aging. » Older vehicles require more maintenance and complex repairs. » Customers are keeping vehicles longer. This means more service opportunities, but only for dealerships that can operate efficiently and deliver consistent performance. TURNING PERFORMANCE DATA INTO A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE The challenge isn’t access to data. The challenge is cutting through the noise. Too many service departments are drowning in reporting without clear guidance on what to improve first. That’s the “data fog” problem. The highest-performing dealerships simplify performance measurement around the metrics that directly impact profitability: » Effective Labor Rate (ELR) optimization » Parts margin management » Technician productivity improvement » Advisor performance coaching » Warranty recovery optimization When performance data is paired with coaching, accountability and workflow optimization, dealerships move from monitoring results to actively driving them. BUILDING THE FUTURE OF FIXED OPS The dealerships that win in the long term will treat fixed ops as a strategic growth engine rather than a support function. The future belongs to dealerships that invest in: » Operational performance optimization » Service experience excellence » Workforce development and technician retention Because in today’s market, fixed ops isn’t just a profit center. It’s the foundation of sustainable dealership performance. Ready to gain a fixed ops performance advantage? Recent changes in federal tax law now allow businesses to fully deduct the cost of capital improvements — including both equipment and installation labor — in the year they are made, rather than depreciating them over multiple years. This provides a significant opportunity for auto dealerships to enhance their facilities while reducing tax liability. ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND OUTDOOR LIGHTING Electricity costs for outdoor lighting are a recurring expense, and rates are projected to continue increasing annually by 8-10%. Effective energy management can significantly reduce these costs. Strategies include operating lights at full intensity only when needed — such as during business hours or periods of activity — and dimming them during low-traffic times. This approach can lower energy consumption by up to 90% without compromising safety or visibility. VEHICLE INVENTORY SECURITY Dealership theft is an increasing concern. According to the FBI, roughly 7,000 vehicles are stolen from U.S. dealerships each year. In response, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has designated July as Vehicle Theft Prevention Month. Physical barriers, such as locked gates, can prevent unauthorized access but may also discourage potential customers. In contrast, Trydon’s network lighting control system mounts atop existing light poles, providing after-hours monitoring to detect and discourage trespassers. The appropriate security approach depends on the dealership’s perceived risk, inventory size and cost considerations. FINANCIAL PLANNING FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS Combining the new tax advantages with Trydon’s finance-based subscription program can significantly reduce the cost of implementing capital-improvement lighting projects. In addition, this program will preserve cash for operational needs by establishing recurring and predictable monthly disbursements, enabling the dealer to initiate much-needed site improvements concurrently. INCENTIVE PROGRAMS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY ComEd provides financial incentives for energy-efficient projects, including: » Replacing older lighting systems (metal halide and old LED) with high-performance dimmable LED lights » Installing the Trydon Network Lighting Control System to optimize energy use with existing dimmable LED lights » Incorporating energy-efficient lighting with our control system in new construction projects Leveraging these programs can further enhance cost savings and operational efficiency while supporting sustainability goals. 2026 Is a Time for Action in Dealership Operations By Don Jacobs, President and Founder, Trydon CATA UP TO SPEED 24
