20 Hoosier Banker November 2014 GR SPOTLIGHT Indiana Bankers Break Convention BANKPAC Record Indiana Bankers Association members have again exceeded the prior Annual Convention fundraising record for Indiana BANKPAC. Factoring in mulligan sales at the golf tournament, nearly $75,000 was raised during the three-day event, held Sept. 28-30 in French Lick. The previous record, set in 2011, was approximately $73,000. Clearly Indiana bankers are “walking the talk.” Convention fundraising breakdown: The live and silent auctions of the Future Leadership Division (FLD) raised approximately $23,000. Additionally the Indiana BANKPAC sweepstakes, sponsored by The KeyState Companies, raised $50,000 for BANKPAC. Proceeds from the auction go to benefit the Indiana BANKPAC state fund. Proceeds from the sweepstakes benefit both the Indiana BANKPAC state and federal funds. Both BANKPAC funds are used to make contributions to government officials and candidates who are supportive of the banking industry in Indiana. In this important election year, BANKPAC dollars are desperately needed. More than 90 items were donated by member banks and associate members for the live and silent auctions, and 2,000+ tickets were sold for the sweepstakes drawing. Charles E. Niemier, Lake City Bank, Warsaw, was drawn as the winner of the 2014 Indiana BANKPAC sweepstakes, winning a nine-day trip for two to the stunning French Riviera. Thanks to IBA members and associate members who donated and purchased items for the auction. Special thanks go to FLD bankers for their time and effort in soliciting items and for providing hands-on help at the auction to ensure its success. t About the Author Amber R.
