Indianapolis became the seventh U.S. city in 2014 to benefit from the Wells Fargo NeighborhoodLIFT® program, when the program kicked off Sept. 26-27 at the Indianapolis Convention Center. NeighborhoodLIFT® ‒ a collaboration between Wells Fargo, the nonprofit NeighborWorks America and local nonprofit organizations ‒ is to provide sustainable homeownership initiatives in cities affected by the housing crisis. Through the program, eligible homebuyers can reserve $15,000 in down payment assistance grants. To be eligible, homebuyers must meet criteria including completing homebuyer education with the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership or another agency approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. For Indianapolis and Marion County, Wells Fargo NeighborhoodLIFT® has committed $5.5 million, of which $4.5 million will go toward down payment assistance grants and program support. Nationwide Wells Fargo has committed $215 million through its LIFT programs, helping to create more than 7,600 homeowners since February 2012. t A representative of the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership assists a potential homeowner at the Wells Fargo NeighborhoodLIFT® program in Indianapolis.
