20 Hoosier Banker September 2014 GR SPOTLIGHT The IBA Government Relations Team has wrapped up the 2014 round of legislative regional meetings. Thank you to the bankers, legislators and sponsoring associate members who attended and made the meetings a great success. A total of 163 bankers representing 71 institutions and 45 legislators attended at least one of the eight IBA Regional Meetings Wrap Up With Success meetings held across the state. Additionally three associate members – CliftonLarsonAllen, Plante Moran and Profit Resources Inc. – gave their sponsoring support to some the meetings. Each summer, IBA hosts these regional meetings to create an informal atmosphere for bringing together local bankers with their state senators and representatives. This comfortable format provides an opportunity for you, our member bankers, to get to know your legislators and to share with them the struggles and successes of your banks in supporting your communities. As your GR Team, our purpose is to work on your behalf to advocate for the banking industry at the Indiana Statehouse. However nothing has more meaningful impact on a legislator than face-to-face meetings with local constituents, voicing their concerns and opinions. This is grassroots at its simplest. At the 2014 regional meetings, legislators and bankers were encouraged to discuss hot topics, both at the legislative level and regarding local institutions. Topics included: unfair competition by the credit union industry and Farm Credit Services, the need for foreclosure reform in Indiana, and the heavy burden of federal and state regulations. Both IBA staff and bankers in attendance expressed our sincere appreciation for the reduction of the Financial Institutions tax from 8.5 percent to 4.9 percent, and the safeguarding of the Public Deposit Insurance Fund (PDIF) in recent years.
