PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE SUPPORTING KENTUCKY CAR DEALERS JASON WILSON, PRESIDENT, KADA Dear Kentucky Dealers, We look ahead to another year filled with changes and challenges, and I am optimistic and excited about where our industry is headed. As we face shifts in trade policies, market dynamics and technological advancements, this is an incredible opportunity to explore new business models, reassess strategies and charge ahead. In alignment with that, one of KADA’s main focuses for 2025 — both in the Legislative Session and beyond — is improving and streamlining the electronic lien and title system. We are thrilled that after four years, we’ve reached our goal of becoming an ELT state! However, this is still a work in progress, and I cannot emphasize or encourage you enough to sign on and utilize this incredible new tool. From our side, we are working diligently alongside our partners — Champ and Vitu, the County Clerks, and dealers — to ensure this process is as smooth as can be. Another initiative that we are very excited about this year is our partnership with Kosair for Kids. Kosair for Kids is a trusted organization that has been assisting and advocating for Kentucky’s kids for over a century. By donating just $1 per vehicle We will continue to work hard to represent and support the car dealers in Kentucky! sold each month, you can truly make a difference. I encourage you to follow our communications and participate. Please be on the lookout throughout the year for our messaging regarding another important initiative — Kentucky Dealer University (KDU). One of our main focuses for 2025 is education, and through KDU, we are offering courses with industry professionals that are tailored to the various areas in your dealerships. It is essential to us at KADA that we support your business in all the ways that we can. We aim to do this by providing educational opportunities, advocating on your behalf, providing access to the best in automotive products and services from our partner programs, hosting networking events, providing the latest news and more. We encourage you to take advantage of all these resources available to you, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. I want to assure you that the KADA team and Board of Directors are working diligently on your behalf and are laser-focused on continuing to improve the future for all Kentucky dealers. We are here to listen to your concerns and serve as your voice. The automotive industry is continuously changing, and as we face another year and another Legislative Session, there are sure to be challenges along the way. However, through the leadership and the relationships that KADA has built with legislators who support our business, we are confident that we will successfully face whatever lies ahead. With that said, you may be called upon to reach out to your legislators. I can’t emphasize enough how much your participation matters. Having served on the board since 2022, I have seen firsthand just how much being involved makes a difference. One of the biggest ways we can support our industry is by contributing to the KADET fund. This fund helps ensure that these legislators who understand all that we contribute to the Commonwealth of Kentucky are elected to office. TIME AND ALLY FINANCIAL HONOR LOUISVILLE DEALER The nomination of W. Kevin Collins, president and owner at the Collins Auto Group in Louisville, Kentucky, for the 2025 TIME Dealer of the Year award was announced by TIME. Collins was one of a select group of 49 dealer nominees from across the country who was honored at the 108th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Jan. 25, 2025. The TIME Dealer of the Year award is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. The award recognizes the nation’s most successful auto dealers who also demonstrate a long‑standing commitment to community service. Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition — one of only 49 auto dealers nominated for the 56th annual award from more than 20,000 nationwide. “Throughout my more than 50 years in this industry, I have been blessed to be able to provide assistance to citizens of my community with their transportation needs,” nominee Collins said. “In doing so, I have fostered many decades‑long friendships and business relationships that I continue to value greatly.” Collins, a 1973 graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville, was 15 years old when his father, Bill, left his job of 21 years at a local car dealership to strike out on his own and establish Bill Collins Ford. “With the support of my mother, my dad took a leap of faith,” he said. “And like father, like son, I followed in his footsteps, working part-time at the store during high school and full-time after graduation.” Collins worked in every department, learning the business from the ground up. At age 27, he was named general manager and was given the opportunity to become a partner as the business expanded with new acquisitions. “Working alongside my father and our experienced management team and staff allowed me to gain industry knowledge and confidence,” he said. And that confidence would be essential when his father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 50, and Collins stepped in to lead operations. Today, he oversees the Collins Auto Group, which includes three new car dealerships in Louisville: Bill Collins Ford, Bill Collins Lincoln and Collins Nissan. Three of his four children are now a part of the team, representing the next generation to carry on his family’s legacy. As a leading Ford dealer, Collins shares his expertise by serving the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association, Greater Louisville Automobile Dealers Association and Ford Dealer Advisory Councils. “Based on my years of experience and knowledge of practical business applications, I offer innovative insights to these organizations,” he said. “I also provide leadership by collaborating with colleagues, board members and auto executives.” In honor of his father who passed away in 2009 after a 29-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease, Collins has also spearheaded several initiatives to build awareness and fund resources to fight the illness. His family established the Bill Collins Parkinson’s Patient Resource and Education Center at University of Louisville Health-Frazier Rehab Institute. “This center helps bring awareness, education and resources to those affected by this disease, as well as to their families,” he said. “We hope to provide support and offer an understanding of the care needed for Parkinson’s patients.” Collins has also donated a Ford Mustang Mach-E to the National Parkinson’s Institute for the group’s annual car raffle. This organization supports the fight against Parkinson’s by improving the quality of life through exercise, education and research. An active member of Atherton High School Alumni Association, where he currently serves as vice president, Collins helps organize the annual induction and banquet for the high school’s Hall of Fame. “Current students are also involved in the selection process,” he said. “They act as hosts for the award ceremony, building pride and respect for past students and their accomplishments.” WWW.KYADA.COM 29
Collins also supports Fair Lane, the Home of Clara and Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, and the Rotary Club of Louisville. Dealers are nominated by the executives of state and metro dealer associations around the country. A panel of faculty members from the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan selected one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year. Three finalists received $5,000 for their favorite charities and the winner received $10,000 to give to charity, donated by Ally. In its 14th year as exclusive sponsor, Ally also recognized dealer nominees and their community efforts by contributing $1,000 to each nominee’s 501(c)3 charity of choice.
