PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE By Rick Taylor, KTA President The Road Ahead As we gather momentum moving into a new year, I am honored to share this message with each of you — our drivers, fleet operators, technicians, educators, logistics professionals, policy advocates and the many others whose daily dedication keeps Kentucky’s economic engine turning. The trucking industry has long been the backbone of the Commonwealth’s prosperity, and our continued strength rests on the unity, resilience and shared vision of our people. Looking back on the past year, I am filled with pride at what we have accomplished together. 2025 was a year marked not only by progress but also by resolve — resolve to improve safety, strengthen our workforce, modernize our operations and ensure that Kentucky remains a leading force in transportation across the nation. The story of trucking in Kentucky has long been one of adaptation and perseverance. Today, we stand at a pivotal moment shaped by technological advancements, shifting economic landscapes and national conversations about supply chains and workforce development. These changes carry challenges. But more importantly, they carry opportunity — the opportunity to lead, innovate and build the future of transportation, rather than simply responding to it. Our strength lies in solidarity — between large and small carriers, between rural and urban communities, between seasoned professionals and the next generation entering the industry. As we focus on moving forward together, we ensure a unified future for Kentucky’s trucking industry. Trucking does more than move freight — it moves opportunity. Through charitable partnerships, emergency response efforts and community engagement, we will continue to demonstrate that the trucking industry is a force for good. If the past year taught us anything, it is that unity is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Together, we can ensure that Kentucky’s trucking industry remains not only a driver of commerce but a beacon of leadership for the nation. Strengthening workforce development will be a big focus in 2026. I am proud to announce a new partnership between KTA and Valvoline. This partnership will provide members with educational opportunities to learn and enhance their teams through training and instructional events. You can read more about this partnership in this issue of the Kentucky Trucker. Additionally, we are highlighting the importance of strengthening veterans’ career pathways into trucking, supporting the brave men and women who have served our country, and addressing the growing workforce shortage that our industry faces. The ATA, represented by Greg Hamm, recently addressed Congress on this exact issue, encouraging them to streamline the process to support veterans pursuing good-paying careers in the trucking industry. The trucking workforce is evolving, and our recruitment strategies must evolve with it. Please take note of our 2026 calendar and save the dates, and sign up early to join us at one of our many events throughout the upcoming year. The 2026 KTA Annual Membership Conference and Expo will be held at The Trail Hotel on Aug. 12-14, 2026, in 4 Kentucky Trucker

Bardstown, Kentucky. You won’t want to miss it. If, for some reason, you can’t attend, please consider sending another member of your team. The opportunity to network and learn is something that every member’s business can benefit from. As we look ahead to 2026, I am filled with optimism. I see an industry ready to adapt, ready to innovate and ready to lead. I see professionals who are proud of their work and committed to building a safer, stronger, more resilient future. And I see our association standing at the center of that progress, united in purpose and unwavering in vision. Thank you for your dedication, partnership and belief in the power of what we can achieve together. Together, we can ensure that Kentucky remains a place where individuals can build lifelong careers with pride and purpose. The road ahead is wide open, and we will travel it — shoulder to shoulder — toward a brighter future for trucking in Kentucky and across our great nation. 2025 KTA Golf Classic If you weren’t in Lexington, Kentucky, on June 12, 2025, you missed out on a great time. The Kentucky Trucking Association Golf Classic, hosted at the University of Kentucky Club’s Big Blue Course, was one of our best outings yet. The weather was perfect, the course was in great shape, and there was lots of fun had by all. Members arrived to some lovely tee gifts sponsored by Liquid Transport, followed by a warm meal and time for warming up on the range, courtesy of HandledNow. We had 68 golfers show up to tackle 6,500 yards of links-style golf, winding through some of Kentucky’s beautiful rolling hills and challenged by numerous water hazards. Mulligans were bought to support the KTA Education Foundation Scholarship, and there were some very impressive scorecards turned in at the end of the round. The Closest to the Pin honors were awarded on two of the par 3 holes on the course, all of which had amazing prizes available for grabs, courtesy of Boyd Truck Centers — our Hole in One sponsor for this year. Our Closest to the Pin Winners were Eric Johnson and Shawn Baker. The Longest Drive honors went to Lindsey Trent on the ladies’ side and Levi Ray on the men’s side. To make the podium, it took a great round of scramble golf. Every single team that competed this year shot a 68 or better. Coming in third place, Boyd Truck Centers shot an impressive 58, narrowly edging out Liquid Transport in a scorecard playoff. Second place, also with a 58 carded, was Redden’s Fleet Maintenance, and with a runaway 54 on the scorecard, this year’s KTA Golf Classic Champions were Pinnacle Financial Partners. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the attendees, all the sponsors of this event and the exhibitors who came and handed out cold drinks and good vibes on the golf course. Next year’s Golf Classic is slated for June 11, 2026, at the Oxmoor Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Dates and venue subject to change. 8 Kentucky Trucker

Each year, members of our association sacrifice their time to come together for the annual conference to discuss, learn and plan for the ever-changing and ever-growing trucking industry. With this dedication of time, we strive as an association to make the experience as beneficial as possible for all who attend, regardless of the size or nature of their business. Lake Cumberland was a gorgeous setting for this year’s conference, nestled in Kentucky’s beautiful hills and surrounded by the clear waters of the Wolf River. Over 60 of the state’s industry professionals came to the Lure Lodge in Jamestown on July 23-25, 2025, to learn about industry news and trends, and to celebrate some of the great things their companies and peers accomplished this year. Our lineup of speakers was one of the best we have ever assembled, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and effort they took to bring the best possible information to our body of members. Our first speaker, Justin Austin with AON Insurance, discussed emerging issues such as cargo theft, cyberattacks and organized crime within the trucking industry, highlighting cases of stolen freight and falsified bills of lading affecting some of the most at-risk products and companies on the road today. Rebecca Brewster from ATRI followed, breaking down some of her organization’s research over the last year, including the ever-pressing issue of truck parking and the benefits of being a member of your state’s trucking association. Following Rebecca, Jason Craven and Trey Thompson from Continental Tire spoke about their new technology, the Conti-Connect system, and how increased data and integration can help fleets stay on top of maintenance and tire health. The fourth speaker was Jamie Winsett with Valvoline Global, who discussed the American Petroleum Institute and highlighted the oil qualities that matter most for the performance and longevity of trucks in your fleet. Our final speaker in this year’s information session was Chris Henry with KSM, who brought an analytical approach to operating costs and explored what it takes to stay competitive and profitable in today’s economy. An incredible keynote speaker capped this year’s conference: Raymont Harris with Elite Mindset Performance. He shared a very motivating message, encouraging us all to focus more on our own performance and the variables in our lives that we can control. We thank him for sharing his time and insight with everyone in attendance. 2025 KTA Annual Conference RECAP 10 Kentucky Trucker

Truck Driving Championship Grand Champion John Willinger 2025 KTA Truck Driving Championship RESULTS The 2025 Kentucky Trucking Association Truck Driving Championship was one for the books. The weather was perfect, and we had a very solid turnout of some of the state’s most distinguished drivers. 93 drivers from six companies joined us at FedEx Freight in Lexington, Kentucky, on May 9-10 for the annual rodeo. The venue was hospitable, the accommodations were great, and the camaraderie was second to none. Friday brought the fun of registration and the written test, which drivers prepare for months in advance out of the Facts for Drivers Handbook. We like to prepare drivers for the National TDC as much as possible, so we had Stewart Easter dig deep to create a very challenging test for the drivers. Scores overall were very good, with one driver even managing a perfect score on the exam. Saturday morning brought the road course and a very early start for volunteers and spectators. Walmart, UPS and FedEx all contributed to cooking breakfast and lunch for attendees, and we had a great crowd of volunteers. We want to extend our thanks to all those from KSP who showed up to run the rollover simulator, as well as help with scoring and maintaining the driving course. We would also like to thank all the other volunteers, from the KTA members present to the family members who sacrificed their time to fill gaps. This year’s competition went flawlessly and very efficiently, and we appreciate all the hands involved. Saturday night brought the banquet and awards ceremony, which is a great celebration of the safety standards set by the companies and their drivers. We had over 350 attendees at this year’s banquet, from drivers and their families to safety directors, managers and company owners. Along with the banquet, the Kentucky Trucking Association gets to present the top performers with trophies and honors, as well as give the first-place driver in each class a bid to the National Truck Driving Championship, which was hosted in Minneapolis Aug. 20-23, 2025. Thank you to all the volunteers and companies who contribute to making the TDC possible. We couldn’t do it without you. Congratulations to all of the Kentucky team members. We are proud of each of you. Thank you for representing your companies and your state so well, and we can’t wait to see how great next year is going to be! 12 Kentucky Trucker

At a hearing held in early December by the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, the American Trucking Associations urged members of Congress to expand key programs that support veterans’ transition into trucking careers. It was the eighth time ATA had been invited to speak on Capitol Hill in 2025. Testifying on behalf of ATA was Greg Hamm, vice president of field and government recruiting at Werner Enterprises and a U.S. Army veteran, who underscored the vital role veterans play in strengthening America’s supply chain. “Veterans bring the values that make workplaces — and supply chains — stronger,” Hamm said. “Hiring them is not charity; it is smart business.” Nearly 200,000 service members separate from the military each year, and many possess the discipline, technical expertise and leadership qualities that translate seamlessly into transportation careers. Werner, an ATA member company, is among the nation’s leading employers of veterans and military families, with approximately 20% of its 13,000 associates having connections to the military and a goal of reaching 25%. “Our team of veteran recruiters has walked the same path as the men and women we serve,” Hamm said. “Veterans entering Werner can pursue careers ranging from professional driving and maintenance to safety roles, operations and logistics management. We extend educational support, tuition assistance and military community resource groups to ensure veterans and spouses have the tools they need to thrive.” Hamm highlighted success stories such as that of Sgt. Eric Macedo, an Army mechanic who used his GI Bill benefits to earn his CDL through Werner’s registered apprenticeship program. Macedo quickly advanced and now serves as a road team captain and mentor. Hamm urged lawmakers to support policies that would expand access to training and eliminate bureaucratic barriers preventing veterans from pursuing good-paying trucking careers. His recommendations included: • Increasing funding for the CMV Operator Safety Training Grant Program to expand access to high-quality CDL instruction; • Passing the Warriors to Workforce Act to ease housing burdens for veterans enrolled in job training programs; On Capitol Hill, ATA Urges Congress to Strengthen Veterans’ Career Pathways to Trucking 14 Kentucky Trucker

• Enacting the Veterans Transition to Trucking Act to streamline VA oversight of apprenticeship programs; and • Passing the TRANSPORT Jobs Act to make it easier for veterans and their spouses to find jobs in the supply chain. Hamm applauded bipartisan leadership on the subcommittee — particularly Chairman Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) and Ranking Member Chris Pappas (D-NH) — for their work to pass the Veteran Improvement Commercial Driver License Act last year, which cuts red tape and helps former servicemembers accelerate their transition to their next career. “I am confident that this subcommittee will build on that progress to empower veterans, their families, businesses and our broader economy in the months ahead,” Hamm said. “Together, policymakers and employers can open more doors for the men and women who have served. We are committed to helping veterans build meaningful, long-term careers in trucking.” This article was originally published on www.trucking.org. Kentucky Trucker 15

Through your membership with the KTA, you will have numerous opportunities to engage in conversations that impact our state, particularly concerning infrastructure and the safety of professional drivers on our streets and highways. Networking This is the most common and most obvious benefit of joining a trade association. In every industry, who you know matters, and trade associations are filled with potential contacts, clients and partners who can help your business move to the next level and become more prominent in your industry.
