2024 Project of the Year RK Mechanical Colorado Convention Center Expansion RK Mechanical was contracted to relocate existing mechanical and plumbing systems to accommodate the new expansion, including air handlers, smoke exhaust fans, stair pressurization fans, general exhaust, makeup air units and all associated ductwork and piping. This was split into three phases of work. Phase 1 was to support mechanical enabling and move the existing systems out of the way. Phase 2 involved making structural upgrades, such as rerouting existing systems and installing new systems through 7-foot-deep structural steel beams. The final phase was to support the expansion itself, which included pouring concrete on new steel and installing new mechanical and plumbing systems, such as 6-foot by 6-foot ductwork mains 65 feet in the air and 8-inch carbon steel hydronic piping that was routed 45 feet up the side of the building and onto the roof.
