Here’s how it works: For the top 30 selling brands, each brand’s share of the U.S. market is multiplied by industry retail registrations in the state during the first six months of this year. This yields a “target” for the state market. Target registrations are subtracted from actual registrations to derive the measurement of sales performance. Brands at the top of the graph (i.e., Nissan, Ford, Kia, Toyota, and Lexus) are relatively strong sellers in the state, with actual registrations exceeding calculated targets by large margins. For instance, Nissan registrations exceeded the target by 3,306 units.
