Briefly in Kansas Banking Promotion Announced at First National Bank in Cimarron First National Bank in Cimarron is pleased to announce Trenton Fairbank’s promotion to Chief Executive Officer, effective Jan. 1, 2025. Trenton joined the bank in 2018 after moving back to Cimarron with his family after a career in engineering. Jan. 1 is also significant because it marks 105 years of continuous banking in Cimarron for his family. His great-grandfather, R.V. Butcher, began his career at the bank (previously Gray County State Bank) in 1920. The bank then changed its charter to First National Bank in Cimarron in 1929. Trenton’s grandfather, Joe Butcher, served at the bank for over 60 years along with his mother, Kim Fairbank, who has been with the bank for the last 40 years. Both have also held the position of CEO in the past. Kim Fairbank will remain in her position as Chairman of the Board, while Steve Burns will continue in his role as President, a position he has held since 2008. Bill Docking’s Retirement From USB Board Union State Bank’s board of directors has announced the retirement of William (Bill) R. Docking as Chairman Emeritus. Bill served as CEO of Union State Bank from 1983 to 2014, leading its growth from a single Arkansas City location with $28.3 million in assets to a regional organization with 12 locations and over $700 million in assets by 2024. He also served as Chairman and CEO of Docking Bancshares, the bank’s holding company. Under Bill’s leadership, USB fostered a strong culture for employees while expanding through organic growth and mergers. Beyond his banking career, Bill held leadership roles with the Cowley College Foundation, the Kansas University Endowment Association, the Kansas Board of Regents and the Kansas Bankers Association. In 2022, Bill transitioned to Chairman Emeritus, succeeded by his nephew, Brian Docking, the fourth generation of the Docking family to lead USB’s board of directors. “Bill’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping our success,” said Brian. “I look forward to continuing the legacy he built.” The Docking family remains committed to USB’s mission and the communities it serves. After retiring, Bill Docking has since passed away. Read his obituary in the In Memory section of this issue. 39
