The Moore Family of Farmers State Bank of Westmoreland Receives Century of Family Banking Award The Kansas Bankers Association is proud to recognize the Moore family of Farmers State Bank of Westmoreland with the Century of Family Banking Award. This prestigious honor celebrates more than 100 years of the Moore family’s dedication to community banking, local leadership, and service to the customers and communities served by Farmers State Bank. Farmers State Bank first opened its doors on April 9, 1898, and has remained an important financial institution in Westmoreland for more than a century. The Moore family’s connection to the bank began in 1926 when Chris H. Moore joined Farmers State Bank after working in the local mercantile business. Through decades of leadership, investment and commitment to the institution, the Moore family became majority shareholders and helped guide the bank through changing economic conditions while maintaining a strong focus on serving local customers. The family’s banking legacy continued in 1945 when Edward C. Moore returned to Westmoreland to work alongside his father. Over the next five decades, Edward played a significant role in strengthening the bank’s commitment to serving families, businesses and agricultural producers throughout the region. His leadership helped establish the community-focused values that continue to define the organization today. A third generation of leadership began in 1976 when James E. “Jim” Moore returned home after serving six years as a pilot in the United States Air Force. A graduate of Kansas State University and Wichita State University, Jim joined Farmers State Bank as a loan officer and quickly became involved in advancing the bank’s operations, including helping oversee the transition to computerized banking systems. He later served as President from 1995 until his retirement in 2023, leading the bank through nearly three decades of growth while preserving its commitment to relationship-based community banking. During Jim’s tenure, Farmers State Bank expanded its footprint by opening a branch in Manhattan in November 2003 and acquiring the bank in Onaga in November 2014, strengthening the bank’s ability to serve customers throughout the region. Today, the Moore family’s commitment to Farmers State Bank continues through multiple generations. Jim’s sons, Ben and Brian Moore, serve on the bank’s board of directors, along with Brianna Gaskill, granddaughter of Edward Moore and daughter of longtime director Susan Gaskill. Their continued involvement reflects the family’s enduring dedication to local ownership, sound leadership and community service. In addition to receiving the Century of Family Banking Award, Jim Moore was also recognized during the KBA CEO & Senior Management Summit with the KBA 50-Year Club Award. The honor recognizes his 50 years of service to the banking industry and his lasting contributions to both Farmers State Bank and Kansas banking. Throughout his career, Jim has championed community banking, supported local organizations and helped ensure the long-term success of the institution his family has helped lead for generations. The Moore family’s century-long stewardship of Farmers State Bank stands as a testament to the vital role that family-owned community banks play in Kansas communities. Through four generations of leadership, the family has remained dedicated to helping customers achieve their financial goals while supporting the growth and success of the communities they call home.
