26 Hoosier Banker November 2015 FEATURE About the Author Paul W. Freeman, CAE, is executive vice president of the Indiana Bankers Association. He can be reached at 317-387-9380, email: pfreeman@indianabankers.org. As the end of the year is approaching, now is an opportune time to review your bank’s progress toward IBA Five Star Member status for 2015. This program recognizes the members of the Indiana Bankers Association that exemplify the spirit of participation by making outstanding commitments in five designated areas: political awareness, issues advocacy, life-long learning, volunteerism and Preferred Service Provider utilization. The IBA works collectively to improve the business environment for Indiana banking to a far greater extent than any single institution could accomplish on its own. The success of this endeavor is dependent upon the support and participation of each member institution. Banks which achieve Five Star Member status for 2015 will have achieved the following by year-end: • Political awareness. A Five Star Member will be an Indiana BANKPAC fair share supporter for 2015, based on the fair share goal of $5 per million dollars in Indiana deposits. • Issues advocacy. A Five Star Member will have made at least five documented grassroots contacts and will have been represented by at least one director, officer or employee at a designated grassroots event during 2015. Contacts include emails, letters, phone calls and personal visits. Grassroots events include the IBA Legislative Reception and Briefing, Future Leadership Division Day at the Statehouse, IBA Regional Meetings, the IBA Annual Washington Visit, and grassroots events sponsored by the American Bankers Association or Independent Community Bankers of America. • Life-long learning. A Five Star Member will have invested in IBA educational programs and products during the past year in an amount equal to or greater than the bank’s membership dues. • Volunteerism. A Five Star Member will be represented by at least one director, officer or employee on an IBA committee or board. • PSP utilization. A Five Star Member will have utilized at least three IBA Preferred Service Providers (PSPs) during the calendar year. To review your Five Star progress to date, online review is available to bank chief executive officers and designated administrators. To review status online: 1. Go to indianabankers.org, and log in; 2. Go to the “My Account” menu that appears at the top of the page; 3. Click on the “5 Star” option in the dropdown menu. You will see a listing of all five categories, with your bank’s progress updated in each area. A print off option is available for your convenience. You also are invited to contact the IBA for Five Star review. Please contact Paul Freeman at 317-387-9380, email: pfreeman@indianabankers.org, for assistance. The IBA appreciates the support of the Indiana banking community in working toward our mission: “To advocate for and sustain an environment in which banks can succeed.” t Is Your Bank on Track for Five Star Member Status?
