33 Hoosier Banker November 2015 Ben Joergens, financial empowerment officer, Old National Bank, Evansville, has been named the recipient of the American Bankers Association’s 2015 George Bailey Distinguished Service Award, to be presented at the ABA annual convention in Los Angeles on Nov. 10. The award is given to non-CEO bank employees who demonstrate outstanding initiative and commitment to bank customers and the communities they serve. Joergens’ efforts have reached 5,000 individuals in 2014 through partnership with 27 nonprofit organizations, schools and universities. MainSource Bank, Greensburg, has been recognized as a 2015 member of the “Sm-All Star” class by Sandler O’Neill + Partners. The class, totaling 34 banks, was determined by the metrics of credit quality, growth, profitability and capital. Dan Moore, president and chief executive officer, Home Bank, Martinsville, spoke at the aha! Process annual Addressing the Challenges of Poverty conference in Cincinnati, held Oct. 4-6. Moore presented a session, titled “Community Banks Can Help End Poverty,” describing banks’ ideal opportunity to communicate the adverse effects of poverty on their communities. t Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville, was named as one of the top three extraordinary banks in the United States by The Institute for Extraordinary Banking.® The bank was recognized with the Institute’s Overall Excellence Banky® Award for exemplary performance in five areas of banking: philanthropy, customer service, thought leadership, workplace culture and financial literacy education. The bank was also named a finalist for the 2015 Extraordinary Banking Award. Old National Bank, Evansville, was awarded the American Bankers Association’s 2015 Community Commitment Award in the category of financial education. The bank earned the award for its 12 Steps to Financial Success program, which empowers at-risk adults, specifically those incarcerated for non-violent offenses, to take control of their futures and achieve financial success.
