30 Hoosier Banker December 2015 West End Bank, Richmond, donated $5,000 to the Richmond Symphony Orchestra to sponsor the organization’s seventh grade symphonic event. The sponsorship provided area students with a special Richmond Symphony Orchestra performance on Sept. 19. First Bank Richmond, NA, sponsored the Wernle Youth and Family Treatment Center’s recent Catalyst 4 Change dinner. The bank was recognized at the event for its overall lifetime giving to the center at the $100,000 level. STAR Bank, Fort Wayne, participated in the Fifth Annual Community Service Day on Oct. 12. Nearly 650 bank employees worked with 22 organizations in 13 cities and towns in northeast and central Indiana. Employees assisted with tasks, including sorting food, distributing supplies, painting, cleaning, planting, yard work and construction. Richard E. Belcher, president of First Federal Savings Bank, Rochester, was the winner in September of the Indiana Bankers Association’s Indiana BANKPAC sweepstakes drawing. In lieu of the trip abroad, Belcher elected the $2,500 cash prize and donated it to the Fulton County Community Foundation. The donation was matched by the Lilly Foundation, then was matched a second time due to Belcher’s position as board member. The overall result was a total donation of $7,500 to the foundation. Alliance Bank, Francesville, has created a junior board of directors made up of 16 local high school juniors and seniors. The board includes five officer positions, and each student serves a twoyear term. Students will participate in monthly meetings at local businesses and not-forprofit locations and will conduct two service projects in the community. They will have the opportunity to donate $1,000 each to charitable organizations voted on by the junior board in Pulaski and White counties. The program is intended to give students incentive to return to the local business community after college through hands-on experience, exposure to employment opportunities and the development of a greater community conscious. West End Bank, Richmond, selects a nonprofit organization each month as a focus for charitable efforts.
