25 Hoosier Banker June 2015 Three member institutions of the Indiana Bankers Association were recognized on the Bank Honor Roll of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc. The recognition is based on the strong bank performance over the past 10 years. To qualify, banks with more than $500 million in total assets must have: no annual loss reported in net income per share before extraordinary items over the past 10 years; 2014 annual reported net income per share before extraordinary items equal to or greater than peak net income per share over the past 10 years; and consecutive increases in net income per share before extraordinary items since 2009. Honorees include: 1st Source Bank, South Bend; German American, Jasper; and Lake City Bank, Warsaw. The Farmers Bank, Frankfort, has been recognized with the Healthiest Worksite Award by the Healthy Communities of Clinton County Coalition and the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce. The bank organized a Wellness Committee, which implemented a wellness program during 2014, while continuing on-site flu vaccinations and other healthoriented events Larry W. Myers, president and chief executive officer of First Savings Bank, Clarksville, and chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association, was featured in the February issue of NW Financial Review. The article, “Bringing an Indiana voice to Washington D.C.,” focused on Myers’ year as 2015 IBA chairman and his goal of increasing banker attendance on the IBA Annual Washington Trip, scheduled for Sept. 27-29. Garrett State Bank was honored with a 2015 Northeast Indiana Business Excellence Award by Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly. The bank earned the award in the category for financial institution of the year with revenue under $5 million and was honored at a luncheon on April 16. Carl Erskine, 1991-92 IBA chairman and associate of STAR Bank, Fort Wayne, has been honored by the Arc of Indiana Foundation with the naming of a postsecondary training institute for people with disabilities, scheduled to open in Muncie in early 2016. The facility will be named the Erskine Green Training Center and will provide vocational training for a variety of jobs in the hotel, food service and healthcare environments. Erskine is known for his professional baseball career, playing with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and as a banker serving the Anderson area. With his wife, Betty, and the inspiration of their son, Jim, who was born with Down syndrome, the Erskine’s have made significant impacts in the lives of people with disabilities since the 1950s.
