They concurred that nothing moves fast in Congress, and that it may be after the presidential election before real reform for the financial services industry is achieved. Overall, this D.C. visit afforded this group of Indiana compliance professionals the opportunity to visit with lawmakers and to share what it is like to work in the trenches of a community bank. It gave us the chance to detail our challenges in trying to implement and comply with all the rules put out by Congress and the various agencies, as we endeavor to serve our communities. Last spring S. Joe DeHaven, IBA president and chief executive officer, wrote a blog, “Keeping our DC Relationships Strong,” in which he encouraged bankers to visit their elected officials on Capitol Hill.
