McBride, chairman of the board of West End Bank, Richmond, has been awarded the Chancellor’s Medallion by Indiana University East in November for distinguished service to the university. McBride previously served the bank as president and chief executive officer from 2003 to 2014 and was instrumental in establishing the West End Bank Charitable Foundation. He is active in the community with Reid Health, Wayne County Foundation, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County and Wayne County Economic Development Commission. Garry Kleer, president of First Bank Richmond, NA, has been awarded the Chancellor’s Medallion by Indiana University East for distinguished service to the university. He joined the bank in 1994 as vice president of commercial lending and was promoted in 2001 to president and chief executive officer of the bank and of First Mutual of Richmond Inc. and Richmond Mutual Bancorporation. Kleer is active with the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Wayne County Revolving Loan Fund, Reid Hospital Foundation and Dunn Center/Centerstone Foundation. Sandra K. Hemmerlein, vice president and trust officer of Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company, French Lick, has been awarded the certified trust and financial adviser designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers. She joined the bank in 2012. Hemmerlein serves as vice president of the Jasper Kiwanis Club, secretary of Girls on the Run and vice president of the Dubois County Estate Planning Council. Additionally she is a member of the Indiana and Dubois County bar associations, Psi Iota Xi sorority and the palliative care advisory board of Memorial Hospital. First Bank Richmond, NA, has been recognized as a Gold Partner for the local Community Blood Center’s Lifesaving Ambassador’s Club. During 2014, the bank collected 132 units of blood, hosted four blood drives and averaged 113 percent of its blood drive goal. Kentland Bank was named Small Business Lender of the Year by the Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation at an awards reception in December. The award is given to the bank that makes the largest percentage of loans, compared to its overall deposits, from the U.S. Small Business Administration 504 program and the Indiana Statewide CDC. Kentland Bank had one loan approved by the Indiana Statewide CDC, totaling $1.36 million. The Farmers Bank, Frankfort, came in second, and Dwain Pitzer of The Farmers Bank was given the award for the individual lender with the most loans during the year. The Indiana Statewide CDC reports that the total loans made to small business owners in 2015 totaled more than $27 million for 40 projects. Those projects created during the last fiscal year saved or created over 500 jobs in Indiana. Centier Bank, Northern Indiana, and Patrick Morrissey, vice president of business banking, have been recognized by the Lafayette chapter of the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People at the 2015 Freedom Fund Banquet. Morrissey, who serves on the organization’s executive board as treasurer, was presented with the President’s Award for his dedication and leadership, while the bank was recognized for its sponsorship of more than 100 youths in the community. Five IBA-member organizations have been honored by the Small Business Administration (SBA) Indiana District Office for their work with SBA loans.
