27 Hoosier Banker November 2016 with the Live United Day through the United Way of Cass County. iAB Financial Bank, Fort Wayne, has collected and donated more than 2,000 items to Kate’s Kart to assist the organization in encouraging literacy and the enjoyment of reading. Bank employees collected books and crayons to provide to hospitalized children. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, has donated $5,000 to Child and Parent Services Inc. (CAPS) to assist with the nonprofit’s new facility, currently under construction. The facility is expected to be completed in 2017. Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company, French Lick, participated in Backpacks of Blessings in Orange County, donating $1,500 in August and volunteering time to pack bags with food items. The backpack program is committed to feeding children in the community on weekends when the children are not in school. In 2015-16, the program fed an average of 345 youth per week, distributing 55,000 pounds of food. t First Savings Bank, Clarksville, donated $25,000 in September to Leadership Southern Indiana’s NEXGEN program. The funds will allow 44 high school juniors from Clark and Floyd counties to participate. The NEXGEN program develops leadership skills; provides insight on diversity, government and economic awareness; engages students in community activism; and develops knowledge of financial literacy and philanthropy. First Federal Savings Bank, Rochester, donated $7,500 in September to the Boys and Girls Club of Plymouth to assist in the construction of a clubhouse. Additionally the bank has sponsored two financial education workshops for local teachers. The educational session, facilitated by the Indiana Council for Economic Education, was attended by 18 teachers from Fulton and Pulaski counties. The Farmers Bank, Frankfort, donated $25,000 in September to the Clinton County Family YMCA to assist in the purchase of a bus to transport children enrolled in the Learning Ladder and other programs operated by the organization. The donation will be matched by the Clinton County Community Foundation. Logansport Savings Bank has sponsored Food Finders to provide food truck services to the community, assisting more than 115 families. Bank employees provided volunteer labor for the event.
