28 Hoosier Banker May 2016 Paula Whiting, Lake City Bank, Warsaw, has been named the Chamber Ambassador of the Year by the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce at the organization’s annual dinner. She serves as assistant vice president and office manager of the bank’s Huntington location. She has been in the banking industry since 1989 and joined Lake City Bank in 2007. Whiting earned the ambassador award as a result of her attendance at chamber events and her representation of the chamber in the community. t Michael L. Kubacki, chairman of Lake City Bank, Warsaw, and its holding company Lakeland Financial Corp., has been named to the Indiana Economic Development Corp. board of directors by Gov. Mike Pence. Kubacki previously served as chief executive officer of Lake City Bank from 1999 to 2014. He serves on the boards of directors of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Indiana Society of Chicago; additionally he serves on the Indiana University South Bend School of Business Advisory Board and the LaCasa Business Advisory Board. In 2014 he was named Business Leader of the Year of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Kubacki is a graduate of Indiana University and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago. . This award recognizes a prominent member of the business community, based on demonstrated leadership, success in promoting the development of the community, overall involvement and contributions to the community, participation in professional activities and a respected reputation among the community’s leadership. ICBA Reinsurance, the captive reinsurance company of the Independent Community Bankers of America, has returned more than $2 million to participating community banks. The company paid its 13th consecutive dividend of $175,000 to qualifying community banks, representing 5.4 percent of shareholders’ earned surplus. Nearly 50 percent of ICBA Reinsurance shareholders received a dividend. ICBA Reinsurance Announces 13th Consecutive Dividend Through ICBA Reinsurance, community banks can offer their customers credit life and disability insurance products from two nationally known insurance companies, while also receiving additional tax-advantaged dividend income. Program participants continue to earn commission income and may share insurance underwriting earnings and investment income on their premium reserves. Since its inception, ICBA Reinsurance has paid more than $22 million in commission income and $13.8 million in claims on behalf of community banks to their customers.
