32 Hoosier Banker May 2016 Horizon Bank, NA, Michigan City, awarded a grant of $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana in March. The grant was awarded to help complete the Veteran Build taking place in Hammond. The project home was donated by North Township Trustee and Sen. Frank Mrvan, while the bank and area organizations have donated a total of $60,000 to complete the project. Horizon Bank, NA, Michigan City, awarded a grant of $4,000 in February to Junior Achievement serving Michiana. The grant money will help provide training for work force readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship for students in LaPorte and Elkhart counties in Indiana, and Saint Joseph and Berrien counties in Michigan. iAB Financial Bank, Fort Wayne, in March announced winners of seven iAB Financial Bank Employee Scholarship awards. In partnership with the Fort Wayne Community Foundation, scholarships were based on academic achievement and personal qualities. Since 2003 a total of $134,600 has been awarded to 133 local students. iAB Financial Bank, Fort Wayne, presented a donation of $1,000 in March to Erin’s House for Grieving Children. The donation, in honor of the bank’s legacy anniversary employees, will be used to aid in improving support to children, teens, and families who are dealing with the passing of loved ones. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, awarded a $100,000 grant in March to Bethel College for four new clinical simulation laboratories in its school of nursing. The computer-based simulation labs and mannequins will present nursing students with training in varied patient environments found in health care settings. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, awarded a $24,000 grant to LaVille Junior-Senior High School in February to be used to further implement the Project Lead the Way program. The funds will allow the school to expand its STEM engineering courses. STEM education focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, awarded a $75,000 grant in March to Junior Achievement to help area students participate in Junior Achievement’s BizTown and Finance Park financial education programs. The bank also announced a matching campaign to assist in raising additional funds.
