25 Hoosier Banker July 2016 Lake City Bank, Warsaw, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 11 to celebrate the grand opening of a new downtown Fort Wayne branch, located in the Ash Skyline Plaza. Salin Bank, Indianapolis, hosted a grand opening celebration on May 14 for its new full-service banking center in Kokomo, located at 2825 South Washington Street. The 1,300-square-foot branch features the bank’s interactive teller system, Salin Live Banker, and a prominent entry important to note that the findings of the interim summer study committee can greatly impact the success of an issue once drafted into a legislative bill. For this reason, the Indiana Bankers Association often works with summer study committees that address issues of importance to our industry. One such committee that has been active in the past is the Probate Study Committee, which is now a subcommittee of the Interim Study Committee on Courts and the Judiciary. This committee often addresses complex estate and trust issues, which can be significantly impactful to financial institutions and to the customers they serve. The subcommittee is reconvening this year, due to legislative action, after several years of dissolution. Another committee the IBA will be monitoring is the Interim Study Committee on Fiscal Policy. Among the many issues the committee is tasked with examining this summer is whether the General Assembly should enact an income tax credit for taxpayers who lawfully rehabilitate and/or live in properties declared abandoned located in designated areas. The IBA has also been watching the discussions taking place in the Senate Select Committee on Illegal Immigration, a committee created this year to review Indiana’s current laws on illegal immigration. To date, discussion topics of note have been a mandatory requirement for businesses to use e-verify when hiring new staff and the challenges of existing state laws related to illegal immigration. Your IBA Government Relations Team will continue to monitor these topics and the discussions that arise, as well as working with the dedicated members of the Indiana General Assembly. It may be a part-time legislature, but our elected officials are certainly working overtime on behalf of their constituents. t nEw brancHEs, buildings & opEnings Salin Bank founder and chairman of the board, Bill Salin Sr., cuts the ribbon at the bank’s newest location in Kokomo.
