Hoosier Banker 25 Dax Denton Senior Vice PresidentGovernment Relations Indiana Bankers Association ddenton@indianabankers.org Article author As a commitment to the future of Indiana banking, the Indiana Bankers Association’s Future Leadership Division helps emerging bankers grow their careers and connect with peers. Last November, FLD members came together through the FLD Annual Conference, titled, “Visualizing the Leader Within.” Held Nov. 2-3, 2016, in Carmel, the FLD conference attracted nearly 80 bankers, sponsors and presenters for two intense days of education and networking. Events opened mid-day on Nov. 2 with an Association overview, followed by an interactive presentation on igniting brilliance in leadership. Subsequent sessions covered pre-election government relations topics, the implications of digital value-making and a case study of two Indiana community banks. The case study was presented by students from Ball State University and the University of Southern Indiana, who remained at the conference to interact with FLD members. With the conference taking place over a two-day span, attendees enjoyed extended networking during an evening reception and banquet. The keynote banquet speaker, a TV reality show survivor, offered a spirited presentation about survival, with the theme of: “Don’t Just Survive … Thrive!” Following the banquet, many attendees gathered in a hotel common area to watch the Chicago Cubs’ historic World Series victory. The second day of the event featured presentations on the current state of banking, the art of human connection in the era of social media, and the value of innovation and its application to the banking business model. The 2016 FLD Annual Conference succeeded in bringing together future bank leadership in an educational, enjoyable format. FLD President Kristin Marcuccilli, STAR Bank, Fort Wayne, aptly described the event as: “Social networking, leadership development, education and plenty of laughter ‒ all rolled into 24 hours.” It also increased FLD membership by more than 20 percent, boosting membership to more than 150.
