2017 Vol. 101 No. 1

Hoosier Banker 33 Bank of Wolcott has been a long-time supporter of Junior Achievement, not only via monetary donations, but also with volunteer hours in high school and elementary school classrooms at two local school systems. Centier Bank, Merrillville, hosted Secretary of State Connie Lawson’s INBiz presentation at its corporate center in September. INBiz is the state’s resource for registering and managing a business, and ensuring existing businesses are compliant with state laws and regulations. The goal of INBiz is to serve as a single point of contact for businesses to meet their requirements with the state. Mike Schrage, Centier Bank chairman and CEO, observed: “With the ability to manage legal and regulatory processes in one easy place online, Indiana business owners will have more time to focus on the day-to-day operations and growth of their businesses – an outcome we are happy to support for our clients.” DeMotte State Bank raised more than $11,000 among associates at the Knox banking center to support the 2016 Starke County Relay for Life. The funds were raised through events held throughout the year, including a bowling tournament, paddle auction, pageant, T-shirt sales, golf outing, car show and other fundraising efforts. Bank team captains Candice Miller and Pam McDonald organized the projects. Farmers State Bank, LaGrange, sponsored an online financial literacy program that is offered at the local high schools. All juniors and/or seniors participate in the program if the school wishes to take advantage of the opportunity, with the bank underwriting the program. This program is designed with nine modules/topics to prepare students as they enter college or the work force. Topics include checking/savings accounts, renting versus owning, credit/credit score, financing higher education and investments. Darrell L. Jaggers, senior partner, lending, of Centier Bank, Merrillville, introduces Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson during the INBiz presentation.
