Hoosier Banker 43 Mike Stegall, director and past president and chief executive officer of Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, was awarded the “Sagamore of the Wabash” at an event hosted by the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 3. The award is Indiana’s highest honor given by the Indiana governor and is presented to those who have distinguished themselves in the area of service. State Rep. Mike Karickhoff presented the award. Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville, was named among the top 1 percent most extraordinary banks in the United States by The Institute for Extraordinary Banking. The bank was recognized with the Institute’s Banky® Award for its commitment to community banking. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, has been recognized by the MSR Group with a “Best Branch Service in the Midwest’ award. The MSR Group is a research firm that measures customer experience and quality of customer service delivered in retail banking. 1st Source received the award in November, for the second year in a row. Several IBA members have been recognized by the Regional Development Company (RDC), headquartered in Valparaiso, with 2016 year-end accomplishments and lender awards. Honorees are: Centier Bank, Merrillville – Most Active Bank Partner; Bill Winterhaler, Centier Bank, Merrillville – Most Active Lender (highest dollar amount of loans), Most Active Lender (highest number of loans) and Millionaires Club; Ben Brown, First Financial Bank, Columbus – Millionaires Club; Dan House, First Merchants Bank, Muncie – Millionaires Club; Kevin Krose, Peoples Bank, Munster – Millionaires Club; Ron Knestrict, Peoples Bank, Munster – Millionaires Club; Tim Nelson, First Financial Bank, Columbus – Millionaires Club; Dan Peter, Centier Bank, Merrillville – Millionaires Club. HB Mark A. Schroeder, chairman and chief executive officer, German American, Jasper, was one of three honorees nationwide to be named “Community Banker of the Year” in the Best in Banking year-end awards by American Banker magazine. Schroeder joined German American in 1972 as a vault teller and was promoted to CEO in 1999. He is a member of the Indiana Bankers Association Forty Year Club. Dan Moore, president and chief executive officer, Home Bank, Martinsville, was presented by ADVISA, a management consulting firm in Carmel, with the organization’s first INSPIRE Award for Leadership at an INSPIRE conference last October. Moore earned the award as a result of his humility and the ability to authentically inspire and engage people. He joined the bank in 1978. Moore additionally serves as vice chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis and as a member of the mutual advisory board of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. He is a graduate of Indiana State University and holds a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Brandi M. Hanson, retirement plan services officer, asset management/trust services, First Financial Bank, NA, Terre Haute, has completed the Cannon Financial Institute Retirement Planning Services School. She joined the bank in 2001 and has worked in asset management/ trust services since 2003. A graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, Hanson is a certified retirement services professional and a certified IRA services professional. Diann Verkamp, vice president and risk officer, Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company, French Lick, has been awarded the certified community bank compliance officer designation from the Independent Community Bankers of America. She joined the bank in 1987 and has served in various positions including teller, executive administrative assistant, retail lending officer and auditor. Verkamp is a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Women Empowering Women, and she is co-chair of the Schnellville Sesquicentennial Souvenir Committee. David M. Findlay, president and chief executive officer, Lake City Bank, Warsaw, has been appointed to the American Bankers Association’s Community Bankers Council. The council consists of 100 community bankers, and members are appointed by the ABA chair to represent the nation’s 6,000 community banks. Mark Bradford, Indianapolis region CEO, Old National Bank, Evansville, has been honored as Indiana’s 2016 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser by the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He was nominated by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County.
