Hoosier Banker 49 State Bank of Medora donated $500 each to three local charities last December from its employees’ jeans fund. The charities included Medora Angel Tree, Sertoma and Hope Medora Goes Pink. Horizon Bank, NA, Michigan City, donated $20,000 to Friendship Botanic Gardens. The donation will be used to help install a new cancer commemorative and cancer survivor’s garden on the peninsula of Lake Lucerne and to help improve electrical infrastructure to the main entrance of Friendship Botanic Gardens. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, has awarded a $5,000 grant to Pathfinder Services for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. The funds allow Pathfinder HomeOwnership Center to provide free tax preparation services to individuals who meet income qualifications. Tax returns are prepared by IRS-certified volunteers. First Savings Bank, Clarksville, donated a monetary gift to local charities on behalf of corporate customers, including Dare to Care Food Bank. The food bank provides services in the same five counties as First Savings Bank, as well as the Louisville area. Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, donated gifts to Healthy Families and the Family Service Association. The donations helped make Christmas brighter for over 60 families in the community. iAB Financial Bank, Fort Wayne, donated $2,500 last November to Family Centered Services. The donation will be used to aid Family Centered Services in the capital campaign to raise funds needed to complete its transition into a new facility. Lake City Bank, Warsaw, employees taught fourth through sixth grade students at Cleveland Elementary School, Elkhart, about money and financial management using the JA in a Day curriculum from Junior Achievement. The lessons covered topics including personal finance, entrepreneurship and the global economy. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, pledged to contribute $125,000 over the next five years to the Boys and Girls Club of Marshall County. The funds will be used for the construction of a new clubhouse. Gifts assembled by employees of Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, were donated to area families.
