Hoosier Banker 27 convention in March. DeHaven retired from the IBA effective Dec. 31, 2016. He had joined the Association as president and chief operating officer in 2006, as a result of the merger of the IBA with the Community Bankers Association of Indiana, and in 2007 he was promoted to president and CEO; in March 2016, the president’s title was conferred to Amber R. Van Til, DeHaven’s successor, as part of a leadership transition plan. DeHaven previously had served the CBAI as president and CEO from 1990 through the 2006 merger; additionally, he had prior experience with Merchants National Bank of Muncie, now First Merchants Bank, which he joined in 1970. DeHaven has served in past leadership positions with the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, the Herbert V. Prochnow Educational Foundation, the IBA Group Health Insurance Trust, the New Markets Tax Credit Advisory Board of the Cinnaire Corporation Fund for Housing, the Indiana Legal Foundation, the Friends of Traditional Banking, the State Bankers Association Alliance, the Minority Bank Council of the Independent Community Bankers of America, the Council of Community Bankers Associations, the Independent Community Bankers of America, the American Bankers Association Government Relations Administrative Council, the Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation, and Family Services of Delaware County. A member of the IBA 40 Year Club, DeHaven is a graduate of Ball State University and of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. United Bank, Evansville, received the Business of the Year Award by Historic Newburgh Inc. The bank was recognized for its sponsorship of the 2016 Newburgh fireworks and Evening in the Park. Premier Capital awarded Lender of the Year and 504 Champion honors during its annual recognition event in February. The honorees worked with Premier Capital on Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 approved projects during 2016. Individuals honored by Premier Capital as 504 Champions are: • Dan Peter, Centier Bank, Merrillville, for the largest single transaction of the year – $13.9 million; • Tom Mills, First Federal Savings Bank, Huntington, for the greatest number of transactions during 2015 –three transactions totaling $9.5 million; • Kent Bierma, DeMotte State Bank, for the greatest number of transactions during 2016 – three transactions totaling $1.3 million. Five IBA-member banks were named to the Top 100 Best Places to Work in Indiana by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce in February.
