36 MAY / JUNE 2017 1st Source Bank, South Bend, contributed $2,600 in February to the Digital Storm Mass Media Program of Lincoln Junior High School, Plymouth. The funds will assist with the purchase of studio equipment for the school to provide students the opportunity to explore the world of mass media through hands-on experiences. Farmers and Merchants Bank, Laotto, has initiated a “Wearing Jeans Makes Cents” campaign, allowing employees to wear jeans to work on Fridays, in exchange for donations to local charities. In December the Laotto, Huntertown, Churubusco and Kendallville offices donated $200 each to local food pantries. Home Bank, Martinsville, recently presented three community gifts totaling over $43,000 in Johnson County to: Spectrum Ministries, Greenwood Community Library and Youth Connections. Spectrum Ministries received $15,000 to be used for the development of youth through service to others. Greenwood Public Library received $15,000 in conjunction with the organization’s 100th anniversary celebration. Youth Connections received $13,000 to use for computer equipment, as well as support for various programs for children. MainSource Bank, Greensburg, announced in March the results of its United Fund Campaign for 2017. During a two-week drive, employees pledged $218,262.75, and the company matched an additional 50 percent, bringing the total United Fund donation to $327,394.13. These donations were distributed to nonprofit organizations throughout the bank’s footprint. Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville, named Pam’s Promise the overall winner of its second annual Shared Values Awards at a dinner event in February. The bank donated $5,000 to Pam’s Promise, a nonprofit transitional housing program that provides support for Montgomery County homeless women and their children. Also at the event, nine bank associates were recognized for their commitment to the bank’s mission, vision and values; and 12 nonprofit organizations were awarded a total of $30,000. iAB Financial Bank, Fort Wayne, donated $6,300 in February to Kate’s Kart, which provides hospitalized children with new books to bring them comfort and to foster a love of reading. The funds were raised through monthly “Jeans Days.” Kentland Bank employees handmade more than 150 Valentine’s Day cards, mailed to local veterans in early February. Lake City Bank, Warsaw, employees taught 306 students in March at Bloomingdale Elementary in Fort Wayne about money and financial management using the JA in a Day curriculum from Junior Achievement. The lessons covered topics including personal finance, entrepreneurship and the global economy.
