2017 Vol. 101 No. 3

Hoosier Banker 37 Old National Bank, Evansville, awarded $1,000 each to seven winning Fort Wayne organizations in its “Choose Your Charity” campaign in February. Fort Wayne community members voted to determine the winners; funds were donated to nonprofits including: Calvary Christian Fellowship, Easter Seals Arc of Northeast Indiana, Gradway, Christ Child of Fort Wayne, Allen County SPCA, Camp Red Cedar and Jyothi Corp. PNC Bank, Indianapolis, donated five iPads to the Butler University Lab School as part of its support for high-quality early learning. Since the school’s inception in 2010, the bank has been supporting it with funding for early education programming. Security Federal Savings Bank, Logansport, in February presented Ivy Tech Community College with a $10,000 endowment. West End Bank, Richmond, donated $2,500 in March to Richmond Community Schools. As part of the bank’s financial literacy partnership with the school, it donates back a percentage of overall deposits saved by students to be applied toward academic and/or fine art initiatives. This year’s funds will be applied to e-learning devices. HB pledged $10,000 to the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA’s debt-reduction campaign. The campaign will help retire debt and enable the YMCA to continue to offer its programming and initiatives to local residents. MutualBank, Muncie, has donated 16 benches, recycled from plastic lids, to nonprofits within the bank’s footprint. Throughout 2015 and 2016, employees and customers collected plastic lids from a variety of sources, with a goal for each employee to collect two pounds of plastic. The final collection was four times the initial goal, for a total of 3,240 pounds collected, recycled and molded into sustainable park benches. Internal contests and competitions enabled MutualBank financial centers and departments to vote to determine recipients of the benches. STAR Bank, Fort Wayne, and its employees recently raised a total of $43,000 in March for United Way of Allen County. Logansport Savings Bank presented a donation in March of $25,000 to Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation. The donation will help build a new cancer center, as well as renovate the obstetrics unit.
