Hoosier Banker 53 STAR BANK / Fort Wayne Brett Carey has been promoted to market president for the city of Marion. He joined the bank in 2011 and has experience in managing commercial banking relationships. Carey serves on the boards for Junior Achievement, United Way of Grant County, the Grant County Economic Growth Council and Ivy Tech East Central. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University. Mike Schmaltz has been promoted to vice president of commercial banking. He joined the bank in 1998 and has 30 years of experience in finance. Schmaltz serves on the board of Treefort Indiana and the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Board; additionally, he volunteers for the Muncie YMCA and Secret Families charity. Schmaltz attended Ball State University and Marquette University. Steven Merritt has been named to the mortgage banking team. He has 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, most recently with Old National Bank in Muncie. Merritt serves on the board of Indiana Premiere Baseball Association and participates in the annual “100 Men Who Cook.” Bernie Christman has been named to the mortgage banking team. He has 18 years of mortgage lending experience, most recently with iAB Financial Bank, Fort Wayne. Christman is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Scheub serves on the boards of the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Company, Campagna Academy and Frontline Foundations. He earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Indiana University Northwest. John Diederich has been named executive adviser, in support of the incoming chief banking officer and chief executive officer. He is a member of the IBA 40 Year Club. She has 25 years of banking experience and previously served as administrative assistant with the bank’s wealth management group. Hahn has earned an associate’s degree and is a graduate of the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy. Shelley Pulaski has joined the bank as assistant vice president, commercial lender. She has 17 years of banking experience, and she previously served at the bank in 2001. Active with the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, Pulaski has earned a bachelor’s degree. HB Cindy Krumanaker, vice president of information systems at First Federal Savings Bank, Huntington, has celebrated her 30th anniversary with the bank. She joined First Federal in the mortgage department, then moved to accounting, and has spent the last 22 years in the operations department. Krumanaker is a graduate of Indiana Business College.
