Hoosier Banker 27 Phil Dwire, vice president and Fort Wayne Northeast office manager of Lake City Bank, Warsaw, received a Golden Achievement Award from Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana in May. Recipients of the annual award are selected for traits including innovation, dedication and promotion of JA programming. Dwire was one of four individuals selected from a pool of 7,100 volunteers. He began his career in financial services in 1979 and joined Lake City Bank in 2006. Dwire has been volunteering with JA for more than 30 years. Additionally Angie Daly, assistant vice president and downtown Goshen office manager of Lake City Bank, received recognition from JA & Lemonade Day serving Elkhart County at a volunteer appreciation breakfast and fundraiser in June. Daly was recognized as one of the top four individuals reaching students with teacher nominations during the 2016-17 school year for serving 10 classes and 184 students. A Lake City Bank associate for 11 years, she is board member and finance and events committee member for Walnut Hill Early Childhood Center; a board member and program committee member for JA of Elkhart County; and she volunteers with the American Red Cross Pillowcase Project. Also at the appreciation breakfast, Lake City Bank was recognized as one of the top four companies volunteering with JA of Northern Indiana during the 2016-17 school year, with 56 volunteers reaching 1,210 students. Kevin Deardorff, Lake City Bank executive vice president, retail banking, accepted the Volunteer Company of the Year award on behalf of the bank. Dan Maddox, president and CEO of Citizens State Bank, New Castle, was honored as a Rising Star in Banking in the July edition of NorthWestern Financial Review magazine. He joined the bank in 2007 as senior vice president and additionally has served as chief operating officer. Maddox is a member of the boards of directors of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Henry County Economic Development Corp. and the Outfitters of South Madison County. He also is a member of the Indiana Chapter of Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and he serves as a board member of the Indiana Bankers Association Future Leadership Division. Earlier this year, Maddox was honored with the prestigious Forty Under 40 annual listing of the Indianapolis Business Journal. He earned a bachelor’s from the University of Vermont and has completed the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Mel Ward, president and CEO of Kentland Bank, was honored in May as the Hall of Fame award winner at the annual awards banquet for Kentland Area Chamber of Commerce. His service efforts include: past board member and active member of the Kentland Rotary Club, board member and volunteer for Junior Achievement, and the Kentland Economics Development Board. Paul Siebenmorgen, president and CEO of Farmers & Merchants Bancorp Inc., Archbold, Ohio, rang the Nasdaq Stock Market opening bell on July 26. The bell ringing celebrated Farmers & Merchants’ listing of its common stock on the Nasdaq Exchange. Darren Spainhoward, regional commercial loan executive, First Financial Bank, NA, Terre Haute, has joined the southern loan committee of small business lender Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corp. Spainhoward works in the Evansville banking center of First Financial Bank. The Indiana Statewide CDC, managed by the Cambridge Capital Management Corp., Indianapolis, works with area banks to provide financing from the U.S. Small Business Administration 504 loan program. Four Indiana bankers completed the Barret School of Banking in May: Paul Buening, First National Bank, Cloverdale – magna cum laude; Zach Hockersmith, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville – magna cum laude; Chad Key, Salin Bank, Indianapolis; Kayla Konger, Garrett State Bank.
