Murphy, chairman and CEO of 1st Source Bank, South Bend, has been appointed to the Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council (CDIAC) in Washington, D.C. The council advises the Federal Reserve Board on local economic conditions, its oversight of community banks, its operational services and the impact of regulations. He recently completed a three-year term on the CDIAC of the Federal Reserve Board of Chicago. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Murphy has been CEO of the bank since 1977 and has served on its board for 45 years. John Clauss, vice president, commercial banking of German American, Jasper, received the 2017 Community Spirit Award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis in August. The award recognizes Clauss’ success in bringing affordable housing solutions to senior citizens in the Daviess County area through partnership efforts initiated in 2004. Before joining German American, Clauss was a bank examiner with the State of Indiana. He serves on the board of Power House, which provides after school services to youth, and he helped establish the Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities program for high school students in preparation for the business world. Clauss has an associate’s degree from Vincennes University, a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, and he completed the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Thomas C. Fite, director of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), has been appointment to the State Liaison Committee of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, completing the remainder of the two-year term left vacant by the early departure of another member. Fite’s term is to expire on April 30, 2019. Fite was named director of the Indiana DFI in 2016, prior to which he served as deputy director of the department’s Depository Division and also spent 15 years in field examination and regional supervision roles. Fite was featured in the July/August Hoosier Banker as the cover story profile. Grant N. Daily, vice president, commercial banking officer, of Lake City Bank, Warsaw, received the 2017 Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI) Exemplary Service Award in August. The award recognizes YLNI board members who have dedicated significant time and effort to the organization and are passionate about its mission. Daily has been with Lake City Bank for 14 years and works with commercial and industrial clients in the Fort Wayne market. He has served on the YLNI board for four years, with three years as treasurer. Woodforest National Bank was one of six banks nationwide recognized in September as a leader in corporate social responsibility with an American Bankers Association Foundation Community Commitment Award. The bank was honored for its Wealth Building Through Homeownership Program, which helps increase access to homeownership for low- to moderate-income families through a public-private partnership with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Woodforest National Bank is headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, and its Indiana base is located in Camby. Also in September, four member banks of the Indiana Bankers Association were recognized with honorable mentions by the ABA Foundation in the following categories: • Affordable Housing - Wells Fargo, San Francisco (Indiana base: Fort Wayne) • Economic Inclusion - First Financial Bank, Cincinnati (Indiana base: Columbus) • Financial Education - Fifth Third Bank, Cincinnati (Indiana base: Indianapolis) • Volunteerism - U.S. Bank, Minneapolis (Indiana base: Richmond) Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville, was one of nine banks nationwide recognized in September as “extraordinary” by The Institute for Extraordinary Banking.™ The bank was awarded the BanksGiving Banky™ philanthropy award in recognition of its commitment to community. It also won the Most Giving and Customer Service awards in its size category, and won the Most Giving award in the category which included all U.S. banks. First Bank Richmond was presented with the Shining Star award at the annual United Way luncheon for increasing donations by more than $5,000 over the prior campaign.
