Hoosier Banker 27 Shane R. Pilarski, president and CEO of Alliance Bank, Francesville, was honored in the November 2017 edition of NorthWestern Financial Review magazine as an Outstanding Woman in Banking. She joined Alliance Bank in 2002 as a loan clerk and was promoted to underwriter/credit analyst in 2003, to internal accountant in 2010, to assistant vice president/finance in 2011, to vice president/controller in 2014, to executive vice president/chief financial officer in 2015, and to president and CEO in 2017. Prior to her banking career, Pilarski taught high school mathematics. She serves on the finance and grant committees of the Community Foundation of Pulaski County, and she volunteers with the Francesville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and with Junior Achievement of Pulaski County. Pilarski is a graduate of Purdue University and of the Barret Graduate School of Banking. Christopher Caldwell, senior vice president for commercial banking at MutualBank, Muncie, has joined the central loan committee of the Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation. Indiana Statewide CDC is affiliated with Cambridge Capital Management Corporation, an associate member of the Indiana Bankers Association. Caldwell chairs the board of directors of the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, is treasurer and past chair of the United Way of Delaware County, and serves on the board of Indiana United Ways. He earned an MBA from Anderson University and completed the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking, for which he serves as a capstone adviser. Caldwell is a former adjunct professor at Anderson University. Merchants Bancorp, Carmel, was selected in celebration of its initial public offering to visit the Nasdaq market site in Times Square on Oct. 27. In honor of the occasion, Michael F. Petrie, Merchants chairman and CEO, rang the closing bell. Old National Bank, Evansville, won the 2017 Community Impact Award at the Wolters Kluwer CRA & Fair Lending Colloquium on Nov. 7. The award honors financial institutions for the breadth of their positive impact to low- and moderate-income communities, and their innovative application of community development programs. Old National Bank won for its “12 Steps to Financial Success” program, which provides financial education and literacy resources to members of the communities served by the bank, with a focus on those most at-risk, including incarcerated men and women, as well as homeless veterans. Commerce Bank, Evansville, was named 2017 Indiana Small Business Lender of the Year in December at the annual meeting of the Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation. The award recognizes the Indiana bank devoting the largest percentage of its deposits to U.S. Small Business Administration 504 small business loans with Indiana Statewide CDC. Brian Woods, senior vice president for commercial lending, Commerce Bank, was recognized as lender for two of the small businesses receiving 504 funding from Commerce Bank and Indiana Statewide CDC during the year. Andrew Yaryan has been elected to the board of directors of FCN Bank, Brookville, and its holding company. He owns Yaryan Eye Care Centers and serves on the boards of the Fayette County School Corp. and the Fayette County Community Foundation. Yaryan is a graduate of Indiana University and of the I.U.
