46 JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2018 First Savings Bank, Clarksville, donated $25,000 in October to the “Save the Fieldhouse” project for the Nachand Fieldhouse. The bank and the fieldhouse share a common thread – they both began in Jeffersonville in 1937, providing 80 years of community commitment. “First Savings Bank understands the importance of community bonds and the commitment we all must make to keep them flourishing,” said Larry Myers, president and CEO of First Savings Bank. Lake City Bank, Warsaw, participated in a “JA in a Day” program in November at Cleveland Elementary School in Elkhart. Bank associates taught Junior Achievement curriculum about money and financial management to students grades four through six. The lessons ranged from personal finance to entrepreneurship to the global economy. Also in November, Lake City Bank, Warsaw, presented the first annual OneZone Chamber of Commerce Topgolf Tourney in Fishers, with teams of employees from area businesses competing. Tournament proceeds of more than $13,000 went to support the OneZone Chamber, a membership organization serving businesses in Hamilton County and beyond. MainSource Bank, Greensburg, last October donated $1,000 to the INHP (Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partners) 2017 trivia night, in which 100 percent of the proceeds go toward INHP programs to support families and neighborhoods. Also, in November the bank helped collect food for Midwest Food Bank through drop-off donations at its Monument Circle location in downtown Indianapolis. Additionally last fall, the bank purchased and donated 50 tickets, valued at $1,000, for middle and high school students to attend the Education Day Party during the Circle City Classic benefiting Stop the Violence Indianapolis Inc. organization and hosted by the Indiana Black Expo. And on Oct. 6, the bank hosted its annual “Great Day” event, in appreciation of customers and communities, with refreshments and prizes, including four drawings for $2,500 grand prizes. MainSource Bank, Greensburg, donated $10,000 and several boxes of supplies last fall to the hurricane relief efforts of Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization. All MainSource branches and facilities served as collection sites, and the team of Bruce Downard, Tony Phillips and Joe Stirn delivered donated items to the Cincinnati headquarters of Matthew 25: Ministries. Farmers State Bank, LaGrange, donated $1,500 in November to the Steuben County Council on Aging through the bank’s Jean-erosity Program, which allows employees to wear blue jeans on specified days in exchange for small monetary donations to support local organizations. The Steuben County Council on Aging provides support and services for older adults and others to empower independence and enhance wellbeing. Farmers State Bank, LaGrange, in September donated $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Indiana. Also last fall, the bank combined its annual training event on Columbus Day with a team-building activity to support the Boomerang Backpacks program, for which the bank purchased food supplies, and employees packed 1,000 “boomerang backpacks for distribution to schools for children in need.
