Hoosier Banker 45 Gene Miles, president and CEO of First Farmers Bank & Trust Company, Converse, and Chelsee Hatfield, a teller with the bank, attended the State of the Union address in Washington D.C. on Jan. 30 at the invitation of U.S. Sen. Todd Young. The senator invited Miles and Hatfield to represent the bank to demonstrate the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Shortly following passage of the act, First Farmers Bank & Trust Company announced that it was raising wages and giving bonuses to employees, plus investing $250,000 per year in community development and $150,000 per year on employee development. David M. Findlay, president and CEO of Lake City Bank, Warsaw, has been elected to the board of directors of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership. The organization brings together chief executives of prominent corporations, foundations and universities in central Indiana to advance the region’s prosperity and growth. Marsha Plesac, branch manager of the downtown Hobart office of Centier Bank, Merrillville, has been named Volunteer of the Year for her efforts in working with the Hobart Chamber of Commerce. She was honored for dedication to service in a successful year for the chamber. Among other activities, Plesac also serves as vice president of the Hobart Educational Foundation, secretary of the City of Hobart Redevelopment Commission and organizer of the Lake Effect Toastmasters Club. Mark Gould, 1st Source Bank, South Bend, and Pat Gamble-Moore, PNC Bank, NA, Indianapolis, were honored with awards at the Prosperity Indiana Summit on Jan. 24. Gould was presented with the Robert O. Zdenek Staff Member of the Year Award in recognition of efforts to promote economic development. He has spent more than 20 years supporting community organizations and initiatives. Gamble-Moore was honored with the Michael Carroll Community Economic Development Leadership Award, presented by Prosperity Indiana and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, in recognition of exceptional advocacy to support the community economic development field. She has been active in community leadership for the past 30 years.
