36 MAY / JUNE 2018 DEPARTMENTS First Bank Richmond has committed to a $375,000 sponsorship to Indiana University East, providing support for the IU East arts program, Red Wolves’ athletics, scholarships, Campus Life programs, and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. In recognition of the gift, IU East is renaming the Whitewater Hall Community Room as the First Bank Richmond Community Room. Additionally the university’s new IQ-Wall, a display of flat screen monitors in Whitewater Hall, is being named the First Bank Tech Zone. First Bank Richmond also has collected $44,320, which included the bank’s corporate pledge, employee contributions and in-house fundraisers for its annual United Way campaign. Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville, hosted its third annual shared values award dinner in February, during which the bank donated $50,000 to local nonprofits and for special teacher’s scholarships. This year’s dinner event featured Eva Kor, Holocaust survivor and founder of the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Terre Haute. Among donations provided, the bank gave $4,000 each for four area teachers to travel to Auschwitz with Kor as their guide; it also donated $5,000 to the Linden-Carnegie Public Library. First Savings Bank, Clarksville, awarded Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana a $100,000 grant last December from the First Savings Charitable Foundation, serving approximately 3,500 Southern Indiana students in Clark, Crawford, Harrison and Washington counties. The grant will allow those students to participate in two experiential learning programs: Sam Swope JA BizTown® and Chase JA Finance Park®. Since 2009, the First Savings Charitable Foundation has given more than $625,000 to Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana. Additionally, in February the bank awarded a $9,350 grant to the Southwestern Indiana Junior Achievement, in support of JA programs in Barr Reeve and North Daviess schools in Daviess County. Horizon Bank, Michigan City, donated $15,000 to the Northwest Indiana Reinvestment Alliance in January. The donation is in support of the Alliance’s Affordable Housing Program for Lake County residents. Also in January, Horizon Bank awarded a $5,000 grant to the Purdue University Northwest Sinai Forum in Westville. Funds will be used to support the forum’s mission, which is to enrich the quality of life in Northwest Indiana by engaging the community in town hall conversations about current issues, including politics, race and policy, physics, history, economics and sports. PNC Bank, NA, Indianapolis, kicked off its month-long focus on early education in April by making a surprise donation to teachers at Wayne Township Preschool, Indianapolis. PNC donated $5,800 worth of gift cards to DonorsChoose.org, a platform that allows teachers to create projects for donors to fund. Additionally in April, the bank gave $100 DonorsChoose.org gift cards to more than 3,700 preschool teachers who submitted projects through the site in 2017; in Indiana, 152 classroom projects have been funded with the help of PNC since 2017.
