Hoosier Banker 45 has been participating by providing “Banking on Childhood” piggy banks for members of the public to take home and decorate, and by sponsoring Roofsit’s Kids Day on June 20. Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, spent St. Patrick’s Day preparing and serving lunch to local veterans at Jackson Street Commons. Bank volunteers helped prepare and serve food to more than 30 veterans, plus delivered welcome baskets to new residents. Jackson Street Commons is operated by the Family Service Association of Howard County and offers permanent, supportive housing for chronically homeless veterans. Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, participated in the annual “Angel Walk” sponsored by the Family Service Association of Howard County. The walk was created to help raise awareness about domestic violence and also aims to raise funds for the local domestic violence shelter. Bank volunteers “arrested” an employee to apply “bail money” toward the fundraising goal. The event was made public through social media and became a community effort, with support from the Kokomo Police Department. Those efforts, along with monies raised by employees by wearing jeans on Fridays, resulted in funds raised of more than $1,100 for the shelter. PNC Bank, NA, Indianapolis, has partnered with Charles A. Tindley Accelerated Schools, Indianapolis, to launch a program aimed to enhance students’ understanding of traditional and digital banking, money management and financial decision-making. PNC rolled out the pilot program in May 2017, which included a six-week course to introduce basic financial education to a select class of graduating seniors. The positive reaction from students prompted school officials to invite PNC back for the 2017-18 school year to teach a weekly course, led by local PNC employees. The initiative is funded through a grant by the PNC Foundation and has helped create two student scholarships for the 2018-19 school year. Tindley Accelerated Schools, operating through the 501(c)(3) public charter school network, opened in 2004 to serve one of Indianapolis’ most impoverished neighborhoods. Branches of First Bank Richmond held a friendly competition selling “Paws 4 Love” for HELP the Animals Shelter. The westside branch sold the most Paws, allowing staff the opportunity to spend an afternoon with puppies from the shelter and present a check for $595.85 to the shelter. HB Volunteers from Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, provided St. Patrick’s Day lunch for veterans at Jackson Street Commons. There’s lending, and then there’s intelligent lending.
