She joined the bank as a loan clerk in 1999, transitioned to consumer loan officer in 2005 and was promoted to assistant vice president and mortgage loan officer in 2009. Qualkenbush is a board member of the Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and a representative of the Orange County Women’s Giving Circle. She has completed the Indiana Bankers Association Consumer Lending School and Mortgage Lending School. Brian P. Smith, commercial loan officer, has been promoted to vice president. He joined the bank in 2015 as Third Avenue banking center manager and as commercial and mortgage loan officer for Dubois and surrounding counties, prior to which he was a financial services officer with Farm Credit Mid-America. Smith began his banking career in 2006 with Fifth Third Bank as assistant vice president and financial center manager. He is a board member for the Habitat for Humanity of Dubois County and previously was president of the National Institute of Consumer Credit Management. Smith attended Indiana State University. Matthew “Shane” Buffington, special accounts officer, has been promoted to vice president. He joined the bank as a bank teller in 1988, and since has served in positions including data processing, consumer loan officer, internet coordinator and, most recently, assistant vice president and special accounts officer. Buffington is a board member for the Orange County Community Foundation and treasurer for the Mount Lebanon Cemetery Association. Past community involvement includes Boy Scouts of America, Springs Valley Little League, Springs Valley Youth Football, Springs Valley Youth basketball and Boosters for Springs Valley High School Sports. An alumnus of Leadership Orange, Buffington attended the Consumer, Mortgage and Commercial lending schools hosted by the Indiana Bankers Association. He is a graduate of Vincennes University. Brian Schwartz, loan operations manager, has been promoted to assistant vice president. He joined the bank as a loan processor in 2014 and was named loan operations manager in 2016. Previously Schwartz was a store manager with Buehler Foods, where he served for 19 years. He is a graduate of Vincennes University. Zachary Patton, mortgage loan officer, has been promoted to assistant vice president. He joined the bank as Paoli retail banking center manager in 2015 and was named mortgage loan officer in 2016. A graduate of Indiana University Southeast, Patton is a coach of Paoli Junior High Boys Basketball and Paoli Youth Football. Kimberly Seger has joined the bank as a mortgage loan officer. She previously served in auto lending at Uebelhor & Sons Chevrolet Cadillac, prior to which she had 17 years of experience working in sales departments at Matrix Integration and Jasper Engines & Transmissions. Jason Sermersheim is working with the bank as a summer finance intern in the area of trust. He assists administration personnel with daily projects to help create a better investment model for customers. Sermersheim currently is an undergraduate student attending Indiana University, majoring in finance and business analytics. His activities include serving as an IU peer tutor and as a member of the IU Ski and Snowboard Club. Hunter Whitaker is working with the bank as a summer finance intern in the area of administration. He assists administration personnel with daily projects that include stress testing, current expected credit loss model, integrative teller machines and rolling out an intranet. Whitaker currently is an undergraduate student attending Franklin College, majoring in finance. He is a member of the Franklin College Business/Marketing Club and college golf team. OUR COMMUNITY BANK / Spencer Betty Apple Rush has joined the bank as controller. She previously worked for BloomBank for 32 years, most recently as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Rush earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and an MBA from Ball State University. JACKSON COUNTY BANK / Seymour Ashley Abner has joined the bank’s Treasury management team. She has 10 years of banking experience and previously served with First Financial Bank, where she worked in Treasury management for the past two years. Abner serves on the boards of directors of Columbus Area Arts Council, Leadership Bartholomew County, and the Carl Marshall & Mildred Almen Reeves Foundation.
