2018 Vol. 102 No. 5

30 SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2018 FLD FOCUS Each year the Future Leadership Division of the Indiana Bankers Association hosts a two-day conference with the goal of bringing together emerging leaders from throughout the Indiana banking community. This year’s FLD Leadership Conference will be held Oct. 15-16. It is a can’t-miss event for anyone looking to grow as a leader within their sphere of influence, and attendees are sure to have an enjoyable experience at one of Indianapolis’ trendiest venues, The Alexander hotel. If you are a banker who has considered attending this conference in past years, but haven’t yet attended, please consider making 2018 the year that you invest in yourself and the future of your career. This conference features a strong lineup of leadership and industry experts who will provide you the opportunity to learn and grow, as well as walk away with practical ideas to put into action as soon as you return to the bank. Jackson Hataway, an instructor in the IBA’s renowned Leadership Development Program, will kick off the event with a look at how banks must engage in targeted innovation that is driven by strategic value to allow them to think big, act small and fail forward – and make their people better than ever. Following, Starla West will enlighten attendees on how thoughtfully crafted decisions regarding appearance and nonverbal communication can enhance professional presence. Tisha Gierhart will then present on how to manage emotional bank accounts, while Indiana Department of Financial Institutions Director Thomas C. Fite will address the current state of banking in Indiana. Also over the course of the two-day conference, attendees will hear from Leslie Fiorenzo on the impact mobile technologies have on people and productivity, including how to truly take advantage of the benefits, and what pitfalls to avoid. Brian Townley will lead a powerful session to teach emerging leaders to think outside the box, have tough conversations, and take more risks in pursuit of bigger achievements. Attendees are sure to come away with a deeper knowledge of banking and fresh concepts to unlock leadership potential. In addition to hearing from industry and leadership experts, the Future Leadership Division is happy to once again include roundtable discussions for bankers to network and learn from each other. Bankers will have the opportunity to break out in small groups to share in conversation on various topics that include commercial lending, consumer/mortgage lending, finance, human resources, IT/cybersecurity, management/supervisory issues and challenges, marketing, and retail delivery/ operations. While these are the initial topics, attendees are also welcomed to offer other ideas that might make for worthwhile roundtable discussion topics. One of the key benefits of FLD involvement is networking with other bankers. While a great deal of time will be spent in classroom sessions, this conference also includes a heavy dose of networking, and plenty of opportunities will be provided to get to know others and build a peer network. And for the second consecutive year, we will hold an FLD Trivia Night, during which participants will enjoy becoming better acquainted, sharing in some laughs and battling it out for prizes. The 2018 FLD Leadership Conference is one of the FLD’s major events during the year, and it is a prime opportunity to see what the Future Leadership Division is about and how it can benefit your bank and your career. Consider joining us Oct. 15-16. We can guarantee that anyone who attends will walk away with enhanced leadership skills, a larger peer network and a deeper knowledge of banking that will produce positive results in the future.
