32 NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2018 FLD FOCUS FLD Networking Lunches Bringing ideas to the table Josh Myers Assistant Vice President - Member Engagement Indiana Bankers Association jmyers@indianabankers.org @joshmyersIN About the FLD To learn more about the IBA Future Leadership Division, click on the hand icon in HB Digital for details – including a membership list and online application – or go to: indianabankers.org/future-leadership-division This past August, the Future Leadership Division of the Indiana Bankers Association took part in a series of four networking lunches designed specifically for FLD members to network with colleagues from their region and share ideas on topics relevant to banking and leadership. The leaders of the FLD believe that one of the best ways to grow as a banking professional is to learn from each other through networking opportunities with peers from across the state. For this reason, in 2017 the FLD held two networking lunch events, which were highly successful. With valuable insight, members of the FLD advisory board felt the need to create more opportunities for bankers to interact at additional locations closer to home. As a result, the 2018 schedule of networking lunches was doubled, and several FLD members took advantage of the opportunity. With 15 to 20 members present at each of the four meetings, it is clear that emerging leaders have a strong desire to network and learn from peers. This year’s events were held in Columbus, Fort Wayne, Jasper and West Lafayette. Each lunch included a variety of discussion topics designed to engage each member, no matter their role within the bank. On the banking front, topics included the latest trends in fraud and protecting customers, information technology security, lending and helpful resources to stay informed of the latest banking developments. Other topics pertained to leadership training and management, including new employee recruitment and talent management, communication methods and leadership programs. A program that was discussed in depth was the IBA’s Leadership Development Program, which has been an extremely effective program for numerous IBA member banks and FLD members. Personally, as someone who has just recently completed the 2018 IBA Leadership Development Program, I would highly encourage your participation in the program if you would like to challenge yourself to become a better leader. Networking lunches closed with a brief discussion on opportunities available with the FLD, including participation with the IBA’s banking internship and college major initiatives, telling the story of banking, and more. We thank our generous sponsors, Bankers’ Bank and Executive Benefits Network, for helping to make the lunches possible. All in all, the 2018 FLD networking lunches were a success. If you are interested in the chance to engage with other FLD members, look for more networking opportunities coming up. There are hundreds of emerging leaders in the FLD, with a common goal to network and learn more to help them fulfill their passion to serve their customers and help their communities thrive. Consider joining this outstanding group, and grow together by bringing your ideas to the table at a future FLD networking lunch. HB
