2019 Vol. 103 No. 1

52 JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2019 DEPARTMENTS Centier Bank, Whiting, partnered with local nonprofits in November and December to raise funds through “giving days.” The nonprofits selected include the Boone County Humane Society and Zionsville Education Foundation in Boone County, Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County, Hamilton County Youth Assistance and Chaucie’s Place in Hamilton County, the Wabash Center, YWCA of Greater Lafayette and Lafayette Family YMCA in Tippecanoe County, and Fair Haven Foundation in Marion County. To participate, the public was encouraged to visit participating branches and tell an associate about giving days; for every mention to a Centier associate, the bank donated $10 to a participating organization. Additionally, for each visitor who completed a free financial check-up, the bank donated another $25. Donations capped at $1,000 per organization. Farmers and Mechanics Federal, Bloomfield, donated $2,500 in November to the Shawnee Theatre, Indiana’s oldest continuously running summer stock theatre. The funds help the theatre in its campaign to install new seating. Regions Bank, Birmingham, Alabama, conducted a grant award program in November offering financial and volunteer support for nonprofits serving veterans and active-duty military personnel. The program, titled, “What a Difference a Day Makes,” was fueled by online public participation. Participating organizations were featured on the Regions website throughout November, and viewers aged 16+ living within the Regions footprint were invited to vote online for their favorite nonprofits to win grants up to $5,000. BANKING ON COMMUNITY Centier Bank partnered with local nonprofits during the holiday season to help raise funds. Tonjua Toon (center), Shawnee Theatre board member, accepts a donation check from Joshua Riggins (left) and Ed Cullison, Farmers and Mechanics Federal, Bloomfield. The winning bank is to be presented at the 2019 IBA Mega Conference in May and featured in an IBA video for distribution through social media and other publicity channels. The IBA also will explore potential filming and promotion of additional entries, to further tell the story of banking. The Indiana Bankers Association is pleased to introduce the IBA Commitment to Community Award to showcase exceptional community bank outreach, in support of the “Tell the Story” pillar of the IBA strategic plan. Selection of the winning bank will be based on community service completed in 2018 – both scope of overall community outreach and creativity of a flagship project. Nominations are due Feb. 15, 2019.
