50 MAY / JUNE 2019 Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Crawfordsville, hosted its fourth annual Shared Values Awards dinner in February, donating $36,500 to a dozen area nonprofits nominated by bank associates, and one nominated by the public. Donations ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 were awarded to: Achaius Ranch, Crawfordsville Adult Resource Academy, Disabled American Veterans, Family Crisis Shelter, Grace and Mercy Food Pantry, Humans United for Equality, Journey of Hope, Montgomery County Leadership Academy, Mountie Mission, Rock Point Church, Rosie’s Cupboard, Women’s Resource Center and Youth Service Bureau. Horizon Bank, Michigan City, donated $7,500 in January to the Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, an organization which assists women and their underage children who are victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. The donation is to be allocated to the organization’s emergency shelter. The bank also awarded a grant of $5,000 in January to Purdue University Northwest Sinai Forum and $2,500 in March to Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County. West End Bank, Richmond, donated $2,500 in March to Richmond Community Schools, to be applied toward fine art initiatives and the purchase of a kiln. As part of a financial literacy partnership with the school, the bank donates back a percentage of overall deposits saved by students. DEPARTMENTS BANKING ON COMMUNITY State Bank of Lizton, Brownsburg, has entered into a multiyear, $100,000 agreement to partner with Family Promise of Hendricks County, which provides housing and services to families in Hendricks County experiencing homelessness and poverty. The community organization has named its new resource center the State Bank of Lizton Family Promise Resource Center. The center opened in February and is located in Plainfield. Centier Bank, Merrillville, donated $50,000 in February to United Way organizations in the counties in which the bank serves, as a result of its longstanding annual contribution campaign. The funds will serve more than 600,000 individuals and over 100 local United Way programs in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Allen, Tippecanoe, Boone, Marion and Hamilton counties. Logansport Savings Bank donated $15,000 in March to the Emmaus Mission Center’s food bank project. The organization is a social service agency that assists marginalized families and individuals with job skill training, education and access to food, clothing and shelter.
