Hoosier Banker 51 STAR Bank, Fort Wayne, donated $30,000 in March as the new presenting sponsor of the Noblesville Parks and Recreation Department summer concert series, covering years 2019 through 2021. This summer’s programming consists of seven free concerts to take place at Dillon Park in June and July. Last year’s summer concert series drew more than 10,000 attendees. Alliance Bank, Francesville, donated $1,630 in March to the Jasper County Historical Society to support restoration of the Quick/Walters/Hall log cabin located at the Jasper County Fairgrounds. The cabin was built in 1867. The donation represents individual contributions from employees plus a bank match. Each quarter, Alliance Bank employees select a charity to support through the bank’s Casual for a Cause program. Wayne Bank and Trust Company, Cambridge City, has donated $10,300 to the Richmond Police Department K9 Unit for the purchase and training of a new canine member of the police force, to help with narcotics detection, inspection of vehicles, tracking missing individuals, apprehension, and aggression deterrence in criminal interactions. Bank shareholders donated $8,300, and community and in-house fundraising donations added $2,000 to the cause. The donation is to help complete restoration of the Quick/Walters/Hall log cabin. 1st Source Bank, South Bend, awarded its 2019 Commercialization Award to two University of Notre Dame faculty members on April 9 as part of IDEA Week. The award was presented to Jaroslaw Nabrzyski and Ian Taylor for their work on SIMBA Chain and underlying “Aladdin” software technology. Nabrzyski serves as director of the Center for Research Computing (CRC) at Notre Dame. Taylor is a research professor at CRC and in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. SIMBA (“SIMple Blockchain Applications”) is a Blockchain-as-a-Service platform that eases use of blockchain technology for non-specialists to make decentralized applications. Aladdin technology enables users to store large files on a network off the blockchain network with linked access, making the blockchain faster and cheaper. 1st Source Bank presents its Commercialization Award annually to recognize the successful transitioning of technology from the lab to the marketplace.
