HB IN MEMORY OF William Nathan Salin, 87, founder and past chairman of Salin Bank & Trust Company, Indianapolis, died May 4. He also was a past director of Salin Bancshares Inc. Salin focused on law early in his career, serving as an attorney with Findlay & Findlay, Kendallville; and with Kennerk, Dumas, Burke, Backs & Salin, Fort Wayne. He also was city attorney for Kendallville, and in 1968 was elected Indiana secretary of state. In 1983 he founded Salin Bank, and in 1999 he established the Salin Family Foundation. Additionally, Salin served on the boards of several banks and bank holding companies. He also was a former trustee of Hanover College and of the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University, as well as a member of the boards of the Indiana Historical Society and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Other memberships included the Indianapolis, Indiana and American bar associations; Economic Club of Indianapolis; Indiana University Varsity Club and Well House Society; The Indiana Society of Chicago; and The Forum Club of Southwest Florida. Salin was a two-time recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash award, a member of the Indiana Bankers Association 40 Year Club and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Indiana University and of the I.U. School of Law. HB BANKING CENTER NEWS Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, celebrated the grand opening of its Westfield branch, located at 707 East SR 32, on May 21. In attendance at the ribbon-cutting were representatives of the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, local government, the business community, plus customers and staff. The bank donated $25,000 to YMCA of Greater Indianapolis for its new Westfield location. Old National Bank, Evansville, opened a new location at 530 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, in March. The new banking center complements the bank’s downtown reach, adding to locations on Monument Circle, Fletcher Place, and an ATM on Pan Am Plaza.
