46 MARCH / APRIL 2020 BANKING ON COMMUNITY Alliance Bank, Francesville, kicked off the week following Thanksgiving by donating $500 each to seven local nonprofits: Benton Community Food & Service Co-op; Eastern Pulaski Elementary School; First Christian Church Backpack Pantry; Jasper Newton Foundation, North White Food Pantry; Operation Starfish; and Unmasking Lafayette. In December the bank presented Casual for a Cause donations of $1,850.72 to the Boys & Girls Club of White County in support of after-school programming. Centier Bank, Merrillville, donated $50,000 on Dec. 3 to the United Way as part of its annual contribution campaign. The donation supports the United Way organizations in the 11 counties Centier serves. The bank also helped Lake Area United Way raise $65,000 during its annual Over The Edge rappelling fundraising event, held at Centier’s corporate center. Additionally, the bank donated $30,000 on Dec. 16 to the American Cancer Society. Throughout 2019 Centier associates participated in various Relay for Life events, as well as Making Strides Against Breast Cancer charity walks. Farmers and Mechanics Federal, Bloomfield, made donations totaling $10,150 to four nonprofits in December: the Greene County Foundation; Open Arms Christian Ministries; Monroe County Community Kitchen; and Shawnee Theatre. Farmers State Bank, LaGrange, made donations totaling $3,000 last fall to four food banks within its footprint. Donations were made to Project Help of Steuben County, LaGrange County Clothes & Food Basket, Fairfield Food Pantry and a food bank in southern Michigan. Funds were collected through the bank’s Blue Button Jean-erosity campaign, which allows employees to wear blue jeans on designated days in exchange for small monetary donations. Horizon Bank, Michigan City, donated $35,000 in November to Friendship Botanic Gardens, an oasis of gardens and trails tucked in an old-growth forest. Funds will be used to build a “celebration pavilion” that will comfortably seat up to 250 guests for special events, educational activities, business meetings and more. First Federal Savings Bank, Huntington, along with the Michael and Susan Zahn, Stephen and Alyce Zahn families, donated $50,000 in December to Parkview Huntington Foundation. The gift will be part of an unrestricted fund administered by the Parkview Huntington Foundation and used for enhancements and improvements throughout the Holly D. Sale Center, dedicated to the rehabilitation of cardiac, pulmonary, physical and occupational therapy patients.
