Hoosier Banker 47 First Savings Bank, Clarksville, gifted more than $280,000 in grants available through the First Savings Charitable Foundation in support of financial literacy in the southern Indiana and Louisville metro areas in 2019. Although a portion of the funding was gifted throughout the year, in December grants were presented to: Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana Inc., $115,520; Leadership Southern Indiana, $60,000; Louisville Asset Building Coalition, $5,000; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana Inc., $15,000; Louisville Housing Opportunities and Micro Enterprise, $30,000; Indiana University Southeast, $22,000; and Ivy Tech Community College, $7,000. Home Bank, Martinsville, awarded a $15,000 gift in January to Youth First Inc. to strengthen the social and emotional well-being of students in Morgan County. The funds will help Youth First protect and heal the hearts of children through its impactful model of prevention. Statewide, Youth First is partnering with 80 schools across 10 counties to place 59 master’s level social workers in school buildings, where they become specialized mentors for students and prevention coaches for parents and teachers. The bank also donated $8,400 in December to HOPE Healthcare in Avon to allow the nonprofit to triple its capacity for purchasing dental equipment and supplies. HOPE Healthcare offers healthcare services to individuals residing in Hendricks, Morgan and Putnam counties. Regions Bank, Birmingham, Alabama, launched Financial Fitness Fridays in January. Starting on Jan. 10 and continuing each Friday through the month, bank representatives throughout the Midwest, Southeast and Texas hosted events offering financial checkups and personalized, one-on-one advice for anyone, whether or not they were Regions accountholders. The events included two Indiana locations. Additionally, the bank has made recent donations to: Hayes Arboretum, Senior Opportunities Services, Starr-Gennett Foundation, Stage One Youth Theatre, MHP Major Hospital in Shelbyville, Richmond Community Orchestra, Sunrise Inc. Therapeutic Riding Center, Girls Inc. of Wayne County, Independent Living Center, Circle U Help Center and the Meltdown Winter Ice Festival. Bippus State Bank, Huntington, donated $50,000 in 2019 to Parkview Huntington Hospital via the Parkview Huntington Foundation in support of the Holly D. Sale Rehab and Wellness Center. The center provides rehabilitation, fitness, sports medicine, nutrition and wellness services for patients of all ages. In recognition of the gift, the center’s reception area has been rededicated with a plaque bearing the bank’s name.
