54 MAY / JUNE 2020 Staff Selection Meet IBA’s newest staff member Lizzie Ketzenberger Executive & Government Relations Coordinator Indiana Bankers Association lketzenberger@indiana.bank I started the new year with a new job, and I couldn’t be happier! The day after New Year’s Day was when I became the new executive and government relations coordinator at the Indiana Bankers Association. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to help advocate for our banking community. My main responsibility is supporting the Government Relations Team. I started my new position, full steam ahead, right at the beginning of legislative session! While Dax Denton and Eric Augustus were at the Statehouse lobbying for our bankers, I worked behind the scenes at the IBA office. I would check the floor calendars and committee meetings daily. I tracked bills and deadlines, and sent the IBA Insighter every week. I worked with legislative staff, coordinated a committee dinner and helped host our major legislative events: IBA Legislative Day and FLD Day at the Statehouse. It was a great way to start my new job because I had the opportunity to meet all of our bankers and legislators in person. After session ended, my responsibilities shifted to other tasks such as setting up our regional meetings and the annual IBA Annual Washington Trip. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to go this July, and I look forward to the experience working with our bankers on Capitol Hill. I am also the executive assistant to our president and CEO, Amber Van Til. I assist her in a variety of tasks including managing her calendar and booking her travel accommodations for conferences and events. I previously worked in positions that involved providing executive administrative support, including at the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis and at Noble. I feel honored to be in this position at the IBA, because I am able to support Amber in accomplishing her goals and strategic plans to lead the Association. Growing up, I would often travel and visit family all over the world. My sister currently lives in Italy with her husband and two kids. We stay in close contact with her, and they are all doing well. My love for travel and experiencing new cultures became a part of my college experience. I pursued my bachelor’s degree in anthropology at Indiana University. That’s where I met my husband, Aaron Ketzenberger. I moved back to Illinois and received a master’s degree in anthropology from Southern Illinois University. I also spent a summer living with my grandmother in Mexico and performed fieldwork studying food anthropology in a large indoor market. I have gained valuable skills and new perspectives from my degree that have helped me throughout my career and life. After graduation, I moved to Indianapolis to be with Aaron. We live with our two rambunctious cats, Remi and Avery. We love our home here in Indianapolis. You will often see us dining at our favorite local restaurants on the northside. We also enjoy spending time with family. Aaron’s dad, John Ketzenberger, has been a journalist at the Indiana Business Journal and Indianapolis Star and a panelist on Indiana Week in Review. He now serves as director of GR at the Nature Conservancy. Aaron’s mother, Jolene Ketzenberger, is a food writer, formerly with the Indianapolis Star, and is now the owner of the Signature Table at the Fishers Test Kitchen. We spend a lot of time with our family, including the Ketzenberger backyard chickens, here in Indianapolis! I love my home and being surrounded by family, friends and this wonderful community. I enjoy serving our Indiana banks, because they are fundamental institutions that are essential for our entire community. I look forward to the opportunity to work with our member bankers and to help give them a voice at the Indiana General Assembly and in Washington, D.C. HB
