2020 Vol. 104 No. 6

66 NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2020 The BankLEAD Internship Program Through the BankLEAD Internship Program, students interested in careers in banking can gain real-world experience in the industry. For banks, the program provides the opportunity to build relationships with upcoming graduates who may be future candidates for full-time positions. The BankLEAD experience is designed to meet both academic and applied learning goals. The BankLEAD Internship Program provides practical, intensive training to students who are interested in banking as a career. Students are able to apply classroom learning, build work history, expand professional skill sets and lay the foundation for a career in the banking industry. Participating banks benefit from BankLEAD through opportunities to gain fresh ideas from college students, complete important projects and recruit the next generation of banking talent. By working together, the educational and banking institutions of Indiana create a pathway to producing strong leaders for our industry and our state. BankLEAD Objectives – Students • Provide a resource for college students to explore the Indiana banking industry and career options; • Connect students with industry leaders through visits to events and sites, such as the IBA Mega Conference and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; • Allow students to develop customer service skills and acquire firsthand knowledge of bank processes; • Provide students with an understanding of how banks support local communities and the economy. BankLEAD Objectives – Banks • Provide a resource for IBA-member banks to identify and recruit top students for internships; • Help banks structure internships that offer meaningful learning opportunities and experiences; • Increase the visibility of the Indiana banking industry as a viable career choice. Finding Students for You Recruiting college students for internships can be daunting. Making your way on the statewide college career fair circuit can offer exposure to hundreds of potential interns, but this approach can be too time-consuming for many banks to tackle. The Indiana Bankers Association launched BankLEAD in 2019 to provide a way for banks to identify and host interns in their institutions. The BankLEAD Internship Program is unique in that the IBA acts as a liaison, recruiting and presenting to you students who are interested in banking. The IBA does the groundwork by attending career fairs, interacting with students and conducting an extensive application process to identify a pool of quality candidates for member banks. Because the program focuses on the location preference of students, the IBA will narrow down a list of students who are eligible candidates for your specific internships. HB Attract talent to your bank through the BankLEAD Internship Program. BankLEAD, created by the Indiana Bankers Association, helps connect top college students with IBA-member banks, helping to bring the next generation of talent to banking. Benefits of BankLEAD: • The IBA acts as a liaison between banks and Indiana colleges/universities. • Guidebooks provide a structural framework and clarify goals/expectations. • IBA-hosted events and support from staff enrich the internship experience.
