JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2021 *0( %HZMWSV] &SEVH 9THEXIW FLD FOCUS 2IX[SVO and Engage With the IBA Future Leadership Division The year 2020 was like no other. With new challenges, new protocols and ever-changing circumstances, the stress and uncertainty impacted all of us. Even if we don’t want to admit to it, we all experienced added pressure in our work and personal lives. As we begin a new year, it’s important to consider how you might better equip yourself to weather whatever 2021 has to offer. One of the most impactful strategies is to build a network of peers in order to talk about your experiences, gather information and feedback, and simply benefit from the extra support to build you up in trying times. The IBA’s Future Leadership Division can be a powerful tool in your toolbox. Ask any FLD member who has been actively engaged in the past what impacted them most from their time with the FLD. One of the first things they would say is that the network they were able to build has been extremely valuable, helping them tremendously throughout their careers. Networking is one of the reasons that if you are not a current FLD member, you should be, especially if you are looking to develop and grow into a long-term banking career. And if you are a current FLD member .SWL 1]IVW Assistant Vice President - Member Engagement Indiana Bankers Association jmyers@indiana.bank @joshmyersIN who hasn’t quite taken the time to attend FLD events and networking opportunities, let 2021 be the year that you become engaged. While we don’t know for certain what this new year will entail, you can be certain that the FLD will provide opportunities to network. As we focus on virtual networking opportunities, we will be hosting quarterly FLD Coffee Club meetings to allow FLD members to engage in roundtable discussions and get to know peers. There are also tentative plans to continue the annual FLD Day at the Statehouse, this time in a virtual format. In addition to other smaller-scale opportunities, we will host our annual FLD Leadership Conference, with our sincere hope that it will be an in-person opportunity this year. The FLD has opportunities for you to elevate professionally through building your network. Will you join FLD, and will you be engaged? A common saying is that you get out of something what you put into it. Join FLD, engage in FLD, and take advantage of the benefits it can provide. You’ll meet great people, deepen your knowledge of banking, and enjoy a network of peers who can help and support you whatever the new year has in store. HB The IBA Future Leadership Division is led by an Advisory Board of talented bankers who direct initiatives and offer insights to help develop and engage emerging leaders in the industry. Last year, the FLD was fortunate to have the leadership of Melodie Yarnell of Jackson County Bank, Seymour, in the role of president. This year, Emily Boardman of Crossroads Bank, Wabash, steps into the leadership role as FLD Advisory Board president, and JonMyckle Price of Security Federal Savings Bank, Logansport, assumes the position of vice president. Both Boardman and Price have been outstanding representatives of the FLD. Finally, thank you to Jessica Carroll of The New Washington State Bank, Charlestown, and Scott Carr, previously of First Savings Bank, Jeffersonville, for their past Advisory Board service. Carroll now serves on the IBA Board of Directors, and Carr has pursued a new career opportunity with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. HB
